The weekend touchdown
Unity & division
The old man by virtue of wisdom called onto all his four sons. He was truly aging and knew time for departure (death) wasn't far.
When his sons answered to him, he gave each and everyone of them a long stick -all sticks the same length and size. He asked all of them to bend the sticks, and once they did, the sticks were all broken to pieces.
He again gave each of them similar sticks of the same size and length like before. He further instructed them to bundle the four sticks together and then instructed one after the other to bend the bundle to break. None of them could break the bundle. He asked them to go to bed till the next morning.
All the four brothers wondered what this puzzle meant. They patiently waited knowing that their dad loves them so much and will always give them an answer to the puzzle.
Early the next morning, the old man called on his sons. He asked them what the puzzle meant. They all could for sure say, one stick individually was broken, and once bundled together, cannot be broken.
The old man interpreted this to them - In real life, if you choose to unite, the enermy cannot get you down, but if you don't, then you will be broken down to little sticks, and the wind will probably whirl you far and further to where no one can rescue you.
Mballen jamm! Good nite!
End of story.

Continuation:
A week later, the old man pulled out the same bundle of sticks and asked his sons to break it; two on each end of the bundle. With little exerted effort, the bundle was quickly a done deal of small pieces.
The happy sons all went in chorus:
With Unity comes strength; With division, we crumble. No man is an Island; We all need one another. The crabs cannot rise to the surface of the waters because their legs pull one and another down, all to sink in doom to the bed-rocks of the sea.
From the far the enermy snors in a slumber While we flourish with or without dad Closely brothers that cannot be penetrated By any force of stinginess or hypocrisy Now and forever we live in togetherness.
The cats and dogs fight with sharp claws While the snakes puffed onto one another We remain unshaked brothers Singing the songs of unity and love Till we meet God! And till we meet dad!
The happy dad put his hand on the eldest son's shoulder, and said "My Lovely sons, you are all ready to be real men now. In the name of God, I bless you all." He groaned aloud with a smile, collapsed and died as a contended father. By YJ |
