HEADLINES FROM THE POINT NEWSPAPER
Will Never Betray Gambia Says President Jammeh Tuesday 18th April 2006
By Abba A.S Gibba & Njameh Bah
President Jammeh has once again assured the Gambian people that he would never betray them, adding that his government would spare no effort in making The Gambia a beacon of hope for humanity.
The Gambian leader was also quick to emphasize that the sovereignty of The Gambia would never be compromised. He said he was ready to sacrifice his life for the interest of The Gambia.
President Jammeh made these remarks on Saturday at the 22 July Square in Banjul while addressing a multitude of people that took part in what was called a ‘Ten Thousand Man Solidarity March Against Coup d’etat’ in The Gambia in particular and Africa in general.
He stated categorically clear that no human being – Gambian or non-Gambian including foreign powers – could do anything to him or The Gambia as a nation.
According to the Gambian leader, anyone who wants to be an obstacle to Gambia’s development would be tackled head on. He warned those trying to undermine the development process in the country to be mindful. He also admonished all Gambians to love their country, asserting that some bad elements hate The Gambia out of jealousy and grudge because of the country’s development, its oil discovery and its selection to host the AU Summit under his government. No-one could stop the path of development the country has taken, he added.
Talking about Gambia’s capability to withstand any country when it comes to war, President Jammeh said he would not at this time disclose Gambia’s weaponry capability but “when the need arises, I will do so”. ”The Gambia is not afraid of any country. Even with a million troops The Gambia will crush you because we count on God,” he vowed, adding, “If a frog wants to threaten an elephant, the frog is committing suicide.”
Turning to the opposition, President Jammeh asserted that opposition is good in the country but “what we have in The Gambia is not genuine opposition”. He described the opposition as a group of self-centered and greedy elements. He said opposition supposed to be patriotic and development-oriented.
He therefore warned that politics based on tribe would not be entertained in the country.
Talking about coup d’etat, President Jammeh said there are three types of coup: a coup based on tribal motivation; a coup driven by greed and self-aggrandisement, and a coup for development. He denounced the first two types of coup but justified the third one.

Brothers and sisters in the spirit of democracy, am wondering why a lip service is paid to this diclosure from The Point newspaper of Jammeh's speech. Furthermore can Momodou help link with Foroya to explain why these statements were not reported and verify facts for us. These statements could serve as warning to our neighbours and the sub-region that our beloved nation is now war ready. What a petty for us? A small beautiful strip of lanscape with its river turning into a wrazone as declared by Jammeh from these statements as extracted from The Point newspaper.

Please ponder over it and good luck guys and dolls! |
