| Taka Titi is a gem!! His stuff surely deserve better exposure than some of the silly stuff coming from young budding Gambian musicians. Thanks Onegambia, yet another invaluable job. Keep it up. |

Gainde, thanks for those videos and interviews. You make me nostalgic.
This is another photo of Taka from last January taken by Danish students during their visit to Jangjanbureh.

Thanks Shaka, Janko and Momodou and Taka deserves more exposure as S pointed out by Shaka. We also had the opportunity of interviewing Mr Foday Jibani Manka, National Assembly Member of Janjanbureh who gave us a more detailed history of the Island. The video wil also be uploaded once I finish editing the audio. We are also working on a cultural Dance event around that end(Janjanbureh or Bansang).

Gainde it is shame that such a talent is left to rot within the confines of Janjanbureh. With the gift to speak three languages(Mandinka, Wollof and Fula), if Taka is exposed to gambian griots who sing in these tongues, he had the ability to translate Gambian folk songs, history and folkore into English which could be very beneficial this generation and many more to come since singing is one of the most effective methods of getting messages across to younger people. It had been reseached by many educationists around the world and had proven to work effectively. Otherwise as Taka right pointed out it is only a matter of time before griotism phase out of traditional Gambia culture if current trends are any thing to go by. This could also harness Taka's talent to greater international exposure. Baba Maal of Senegal is one such international star who benefited a great deal from spending a lot of his time with traditional griots in Futa and across Senegal and Guinea with the help of his legendary backing vocalist the blind Mansour Seck. Nothing will give me greater pleasure than to listen to traditional Gambian folkore from Taka's fine voice with the sweat vibrations of his drums in the background. Just a thought.quote: Originally posted by gainde
