Does this mean that the Gambia Government has now regained the shares sold to the Lebanese company Spectrum?

The much-talked about merger between The Gambia’s national telecommunications companies, Gamtel and Gamcel, and Spectrum company, a Lebanese owned company which bought 50 percent shares of the two companies on August 1st 2007, appears to have come to an end when on August 1st 2008, the contract was not renewed...........

Jammeh should now learn his lesson. Frm GIA to Gamtel. Most of these fortune hunters will make use of some greed yesmen or yes women in Jammeh's entouarge to wreck havoc on dear Gambia. All thse fortune hunters promises have been found to be a bunch of lies. They have made a lot during their time. Some damage is done but all is not lost. Mr Omar Ndow has been vindicated. |

You have raised a very important question Momodou and in so doing you have exposed the dubious nature of this deal. What i cannot understand as far as prudent business is concerned is what business or businessman would invest capital in the value of 50% shares of a company as huge as Gamtel for a one year contract with the option to increase the length of the contract at the mercy of the seller's whims. I know that those Lebanese businessmen are greedy ******s but nobody told me that they escaped from a mental assylum if they could agree to a such deal they belive would yield them more than the net value of their investment(half the capital value of Gamtel) within a period of one year. This government actually believe that Gambians are so retarded that they can come up with stupid stunts like this without the masses suspecting a thing.
Unless the government is telling us that the Spectrum deal was a management contract and not a financial one in which Spectrum Group owned half the value of Gamtel then they are talking bollocks. You do not tell a your business partner in a 50:50 business venture to sling his hook over night unless you are willing to buy back his 50% share and even then that is subject to him wanting to sell. To suggest that Spectrum bought 50% of Gamtel's shares on a one year contract is the most outrageously stupid thing i have ever heard of in business. The question now is, did Spectrum actually invest a butut to buy 50% of both Gamtel and Gamcel or was the whole deal another scam spun by Jammeh and his Lebanese friends to defraud the nation? |

Could it be that Spectrum still maintains their 50% share but lost the management contract or they never had any share but got a management contract? I think the story is incomplete and a clarification is needed. |

The story is not just only incomplete but i think it was a bad PR attempt to throw sand into our eyes. That Gambians would be glad that the much despised Lebanese are chased out of town, so we would all be dancing in the streets and hail the Emperor, ignoring the fact that a shady deal and a scam had been in operation in Gamtel and Gamcel for the past year. The sudden and premeditated harrasment of the Lebanese community, starting with the denouncement of their Shi'ite religious beliefs to the "termination of contracts" is a well orchestrated move. The Lebanese are not the enemies of the Gambian people, some of are born Gambians who had contributed tremendously to the nation's economic well being as did their fathers before them. The enemy is the mafioso element among them and the government operators who had facilitated and help entrench the financial crimes they had wreaked on the nation over the years with the President at the head of this crime syndicate. Jammeh knows the criminals among them for they are his close business partners, why not get them and leave the rest of the hard working and peaceful Lebanese community alone. |
