I've been using it for years and it has done me no harm. Well! some people may say I'm damaged goods. Seriously though, it has worked for me and many people I know. I rejected modern medicine more 25 years ago and have always used traditional. At least you know what you are taking unlike modern medicine which is full of compounds and give other side effects which are rearly stipulated on the pack.
I think everyone should have a choice - ie. what works for them. However, you should be well informed before you take anything. You dont just go and buy a house without doing your research. This is your health we are talking about, you shouldn't just put anything into your body without doing your research. You will find that, the people who results to these traditional medicine like myself, are more informed than those who resort to modern medicine, who take whatever they are given by their GP/pharmacist/hospital without question. These people tend to have a strange mentality - 'if the doctor thinks that can cure me then that's what i should take'. or 'the doctor knows best'. I'm sorry, but sometimes the doctors dont know anything and just want to get rid of you by prescribing anything. |

My train of thought was rather, how do I know what this is,why should I trust this outlet or that. |

I use alternative medicine I have had session of acupuncture and see a Chinese herbalist for what I would describe as minor aliments.
I was always a sceptic when it came to alternative medicine but as a last ditch resort after becoming almost addicted to morphine and Vicodin by a registered GP I sort an alternative and found relief from acupuncture the results I couldn't deny.
Like you say I think theres a place for both alternative and more conventional medication you just need to arm yourself with enough information in order to make informed choices. I must admit Toubab1020 the article does not mention licensing or qualification so I understand your scepticism. |

OK I am a bit of a sceptic,Licensing.....that's sometimes just a way of making money in a "caring society, nanny state control type!" qualifications just the same, I am afraid, what use is a bit of paper saying you have passed this course or that ? I would rather rely on word of mouth something like the family have been doing this for years and have always had good results, acqupuncture, very mysterious but it works, how who knows, the theory is quite complicated I have no idea what it means but I know several people who have been relieved of back pain and various other aches.I know that there are many roots and herbs from which modern medicines have originated from and there are doubtess many more waiting to be discovered in the rain forest. |

As far as I know in Britain you cannot practice acupuncture without a license and stringent checks though I don't know about herbalist, though my clinic specialises in a holistic approach and incorporates Chinese herbal medicines with treatments.
I personally feel more confident knowing my acupuncturist is a member of the BAC and they will recommend a local clinic. Though I agree, word of mouth is normally a fail proof route.
