I found this tucked away and almost missed it,quite interesting I thought.

http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/2008/7/24/new-visa-system-for-gambia

Snippet:
A new biometric visa system, the latest acquired technology and facility intended to enhance the quality of service and security at the Banjul International Airport, was yesterday launched by President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh.

A welcome development I take it it will be the bar code system like we have in the UK and the states.

He urged the operators of the system to work honestly for the development of the country, noting that every Gambian should be proud of the biometric visa system, because in Africa, there are diamond and oil producing countries who do not have the technology.
“The Gambia has it and by the time they have this system, we would have moved to something higher, because I want to make sure that The Gambia is three steps ahead of the rest of Africa”, Dr Jammeh noted, saying “The Gambia small [though] it may be, will be a beacon of hope for the rest of mankind”. The Gambia with time, he continued, will be the standard bearer in technology in Africa.

Does this also mean that there will be improvements in service by these airport officials?
Lets hope the increasing corruption and harassment of passengers not only arriving, but now even departing is also eradicated with all this new technology .

Big brother & another technological colony for West and U.s! Details captured are secured lifetime.

Coming of "Dajaal!" is that data-base secured for BIG BROTHER.It has been a prophecy that BIG BROTHER ("with only one-eye looker") is on the way Thats our computer age and trust me with internet technological advancement; BIG BROTHER RULE D WORLD AS ITS EMPIRE! The cyberworld is a colony and territory of BIG BROTHER!

Its good to secure the boarders for threats but the laser serves U.S interests to dominate the world in terms of freedom of movement of goods, services and people.

Kobo this is true, an incident in 2005 (a stupid comment that landed me in immigration in New York for 2 hours) has followed me around the globe since then with all that have this technology.

Most customs officials are more curious to what went on than seeing me as a security threat.

Looks like I'll have the same hold ups in Gambia to look forward to.Although with nothing to hide I personally don't find this a major problem just a slight irritation.

Its a good technological advancement but hope that NATIONAL INTERESTS outweighs NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES & GLOBAL WAR / CAMPAIGN ON TERROR

Any legislative records or debate through M.Ps to consider this installations as a national project or programme that serves national interests more than imperialism Did it properly passed through the House

The debate on US nukes earmarked for India nearly brought down Congress government and its Prime Minister (who they saw as the one og the best since Nehru)!

We all hope that the information collected these days is used properly most of the technology wouldn't have been developed so quickly had there not been extremests and really stupid people with tunnel vision who were only able to focus on their own very limited intrests. This applies to ALL.Not only one side, Enough said.I for one would not wish to take part in any discussion that gets bogged down in the "for and against" of any particular idology.

Its not about ideology but the POLITICAL STRATEGIC POLICIES & SURVEILANCE ACROSS THE GLOBE AND POLICING THAT SERVES "BIG BROTHER!"

Why NUKES FOR ISRAEL OR INDIA & NOT PAKISTAN OR IRAN etc. Extremism affects all countries that tries to dominate forever and ever than go for GLOBAL PEACE & A STABLE WORLD ORDER! A classic "NO WIN SITUATION!" as with Obama's self-defence strategy. Another point is that Berlin walls were shattered but walls are built between Israel and Palestine confilct! "Built TRUST and not walls!"

There are some very important points from Turk under bantaba topic; Arrest Warrant for Sudanese President - Justified? http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6368&whichpage=4

Have a good day!

Surley "POLITICAL STRATEGIC POLICIES & SURVEILANCE ACROSS THE GLOBE AND POLICING THAT SERVES "BIG BROTHER!"
Is total left wing idology, just like capitalism dosn't always work,I am not a historian so I cannot become engaged in a very wide subject that I have very little knowledge of and as I have said before I hate politics.Turk has made some relevant points I don't dispute that

To quote the late great Robert Nesta Marley, "A hungry man is an angry man". Might I therefore suggest that maybe Kobo should go get some food and then we can all look forward to less UPPER CASE TYPING (ie shouting!) ....
