It was during the mid-80s when fixed telephone was still a novelty in some Gambian communities. This happened in a Kaabunka household. In the compound there was only one subscriber , called Musa. Musa being a civil servant leaves home in the morning and returns home in the evening. Since he was not married and lived a lone, he locks the room in which the phone was installed. On this fateful day, the children went to school and Musa too went to work. The women went to the market and others to their gardens. So only Mba Faatu the old woman was home.
Suddenly the phone rang, Mba Faatu struggled and went to the window of the room
She shouted back into the room, Musa tee chang (Musa is out)
As she was about to go back to her seat under the sun, the phone rang again,
She struggled once again and went to window again shouted back, nga foye ley Musa tee chang( I told you Musa is out)
Then as she was about to return to her seat, the phone rang again, she was frustrated and said Musa lay nying teerima nga meera aatolo mang diyya ( I think Musa’s friend is deaf)
