Limey is an old American and Canadian slang nickname for the British, originally referring to British sailors. The term is believed to derive from lime juicer, referring to the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy practice of supplying lime juice to British sailors to prevent scurvy. The benefits of citrus juice were well known at the time thanks to the acute observations of surgeon James Lind who noticed that the cabbage eating Dutch had fewer problems with scurvy. Limes were used over lemons due to limes being more readily available from Britain's own Caribbean colonies. The term is thought to have originated in the Caribbean in the 1880s. OK that't fine you carry on with your own irriting,I would hate to think that I was disturbing you,keep using Wikipedia,if I had read THAT particular entry then I would have understood the way your complex mind works.The word Limey refers to the British,yes?.........I therefore think my posting was accurate and there was no need for me to ....

If you are in touch with your folks back home you comfirm that it was news monitored on GRTS. That is just one easy and cheap means of verification.

Who appointed you Anna's official spokesperson. I provide Wikipedia explaination as one of many option for finding meaning and description of words and phrase on the web. May be you should grab a copy of a dictionary next time, if is an easier option. Do not put words in peoples mouths unless you understand them. The phrase "Dutch courage" was coined by the Brits as explained by Wikipedia, hence my reply to Anna that the Brits say a lot of things about other people. Where the hell did i say Anna is a Limey? Sheriff Gomez wants best for Gambian youth and sports The newly appointed minister has been spelling out his vision for Gambian youth and sports development.
Sheriff Gomez spoke to gambiasports.gm as the national Under-20 took on Mauritania on Saturday, a day after he got the nod in place of Mass Axi Gye.
Gomez began by commending the Gambian team for winning on what was his first public engagement as minister.
“I congratulate the whole team and hope that they will take the result as an inspiration to get to higher heights,” he said.
“The victory was certainly not down to luck,” Gomez said in what seemed to be an effort to deflect any criticism of the team’s laboured performance.
“The players worked very hard and deserved their win.”
Gomez was asked what his priorities might be as minister for youth and sports.
“In the area of sports,” he said, “we would like to reach a height hitherto un-scaled. The aim is to improve our [football] game to a level whereby we will begin to see our boys reach top levels in international play.
“The same goes for youth development. We want to reach the pinnacle.”
For Gomez to realize his vision he admitted that a lot has to change in the ministry he now heads.
“We need to look at what is current in the area of youth and sports development and adapt accordingly; that’s to say we need to change with the times.”
Asked if he wasn’t aiming too high Gomez replied, “The benchmark that we set must always be high.
“If you raise the bar that high then you know you have a challenge and therefore are unlikely to rest on your oars.
“I think we have the human resources. We certainly have the political will. So all we need to do is to redefine what the challenges are.”

I hope and wish him success,,As he admitted that a lot has to be done,He said is THINK we have the human resources,an certainly have the political will. I will say we certainly have the human resources and i think we have the political will.All what we need to do is to give him the maximum support he need. encourage, agree disagree to agree and criticizes him when necessary. Gambia is for all Gambia and we all looking to be part of nation development . I cant wait to see Peter Gomez to be in charge of youth and sports.

He guys, calm down - didn't mean to start a fight! Thanks again for explaining, i now know i am not a Limey but i am a 'Cabby'. Don't start an argument about this, it is not at all important. Funny, in Dutch we have a saying 'het sop is de kool (=cabbage) niet waard', meaning something like: it is not worth it to use this soapy water to clean the cabbage'= this soapy water should be used for something more important - just like both your good thoughts, intelligence and energy should be used for something more important!
