Are there any generous people with millions in their account?

The man is a real Inuit who would share his catch with the needy in the village.

Greenland's Robin Hood
By The Copenhagen Post

A banking error caused a man in Greenland to believe he was a millionaire for three weeks

Faulty data entry of a man's personal details at a bank resulted in a 450,000 kroner spending spree which now has the spendthrift charged with illegal handling of lost goods, reports public broadcaster DR.

The man, who resides in Nanortalik, Greenland, received a bank statement from BRF Bank in Denmark three weeks ago with the sum of 1.3 million kroner, despite his not having a bank account there.

Faced with the surprising bank statement, he called the bank to check that there had not been a mistake, and the bank confirmed that the money was indeed his.

The man had had a regular coupon in the national lottery and assumed that he must have won. He immediately asked for a transfer of some money to his Greenlandic account.

According to police in Nanortalik, the man spent 450,000 kroner in three weeks. He bought a boat and a computer for himself. He gave away mobile phones to all his family members. At the supermarket, he filled trolleys with food to donate to the needy. And he was seen handing out cash to those in need.

But the good times came to an abrupt end earlier this week when BRF Bank discovered there had been a mistake. The man's details had been mistakenly entered as the owner of another person's account.

The police have now confiscated the boat and computer, but most of the 450,000 kroner is irretrievable.

The man is being charged with illegal handling of lost goods, but an officer at Nanortalik police station said that this was a 'peculiar' case, as the man had checked with the bank and presumably acted in good faith.
