I have stayed there in the past and its never been a VERY good hotel,(the large swimming poor is the best thing about the place!)the staff are quite good and try their best,breakfast has ALWAYS been VERY poor which appears to be the main concern of the reviewers in your link and general decay in the fabric of the hotel,we all know that things don't last forever and have to be renewed but without good guest feedback the big tour operators will not send guests there,so a catch 22 situation for the hotel owners.
"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
