Though not a great fan of Freedomnewspaper, i think there is a grain or two of truth in the report. Nearly a month ago i sent money home, becos couldn't use my normal dealer(Malam), the beneficiary had to go to bayba three days b4 the money was dished out to him. Not only was it late but they cheated him by paying him D30 less. This is the second time and it shall be the last time. I have vowed NEVER, EVER TO use them even if they are revamped inside out.

i have used Bayba in the past because i was supporting a gambian owned business, but recent stories are making me think about going back to western union. when we send money to gambia they have to travel to the place to pick up the funds, if it is not there what are they suppose to do, wait, come back. Is there an economicist or financial analyast who could give me a breakdown on the social/political/economical costs of what happens when we send money and it is not received. I get the picture when it is received all is well, they pay the bills, buy foods/etc. they make when trip and that is factored in, but when the opposite happens

this happened in n. carolina and now westfield. it also happened, without the riots, back last year when bayba "ran out of cash". my bro-in-law here had invested in one of their year long, high-return savings plans. when the last nonsense happened, he withdrew his money - it took two months! - but he did get it. i will never use them again, nor will anyone i know - even their transactions to big companies like group 4 in gambia have had serious cashing up problems. sorry to say, but i think that the ruinous fiscal policies of the administration are now bearing rotten fruit. it is my belief that this is very very worrying as an indicator of serious economic problems ahead. |
