Omega,
Welcome back. It’s truly been a while missing your threads, but honestly the language that is emerging will not make people comfortable debating on it. I know you are full of energy after that long silence. You are right we need to hear from others as well. I believe that we are hearing from a lot of people. Not withstanding, you know we have a readership from the Gambia. Now should those people post the opposite of what you expect, then I am eager to see your new take on things.
Over time, the younger ones in this forum benefited from your postings on literature, culture and et cetera. Personally I signaled you in the past to recognize the fact of Gambia’s current political circumstance. You are following the political situation if not more than most of us, not less either because I know for a fact you are in all these forums. The human rights violation and muzzling of voice is in the loose. The demonic bickering is annoying, not to talk of the self-proclamation of being a god, curing some and overpowering others’ spirit in blues. The random hire and fire done with arrogance is a heck. How can the devils and God dine on the same table? The false hope being given by the friend to the demons must be trampled and trimmed to the bud. This much you will agree with Omega. I question not what you believe in. For all I know in the city you live in, you cannot teach your students about this demonic experience, false hope of cures of diseases, self-proclamation of supernatural powers, et cetra. Not even your own children because I know you don’t believe in it. Tell me you don't or less i will never bother you in a debate.
Personally, I believe that intellectual dishonesty & hypocrisy starts with being in self-denial of the existing truth.
After long intense debates with you here over time, I think we can broker a deal with you, if you like. The deal is you are fully entitled to your political opinion and can support Jammeh all you want. That still won’t change the fact of the matter. The political situation is very fragile. Please understand people are not only crying for crying sake. Something is wrong somewhere. Some thing is not right.
If at all, the shameless basis for argument of Jammeh’s support is the alleged infrastructure, it as well a shame that one sees only those ‘white elephants’ structures but cannot see the much inconvenienced human rights violations, lacking in respect for the law, irresponsible administration, political madness, demonic power struggle, just a few stones to throw.
After knowing a little about your Gambian ties, I am compelled not to compare you with Dida Halake, the current Observer MD putting the Gambia in flames, for I know you have a lot to offer. While I respect his political opinion, I think that he is better keeping a low profile and not at all meddling with Gambia’s affairs in the manner and nature he is currently doing.
The truth is Jammeh needs to pack and leave. For all I can say for now, his time is way over due. Otherwise that which will get him out the exit door is what got him through the entry door. What comes around goes around.
We will appreciate it if those people or countries you are fighting for, a little bit of that can be extended to us, at least in empathy, if not in actions. Now you no longer wonder why we cannot come to terms with you here ever on your Gambia's political opinion. Omega, 'not this time.' Your stance is farce.
Regards, Dalton

Brother Dalton1
The verdict of history is accurate and real. July 22 coup is such an ugly conduct that those who ventured it will never stand clean in history. The best they can do now or even much earlier is to surrender and allow the nation progress. They are worried that once sanity is restored in Gambia, they will be punished. You heard the opposition leader in Zimbabwe declaring his readiness to pardon Mugabe. Gambians are not so wicked to keep punching the July 22 bandits. We know their crime and the rest we settle in the archives. We are being delayed as a nation far too long. There is sufficient proof that the criminal bunch is not fit to run a nation. They wanted money and with brutal force, they now have enough of it, not caring how much of it is soaked in blood.
With the gang-master now claiming he is dealing with devils, that is even more worrying. We are people and cannot club around with jinns. This is over the roof. In total agreement with you, let them surrender and set for the exit.
The most fatal notion is when anyone tries to impress on us that we give time. What more time? We already know enough. A country is nobody's backyard to grow wild plants for experimentation. |

Dalton there is too much fantasy sweeping across cyberspace at present, too much gossip, too much spin and not enough solid evidence to prove what these pseudo self appointed journalists are saying. Because some ridiculous articles have been written over cyberspace doesn't make them true. Karamba you are talking about jinns the first time I ever heard about a jinn was in the Q'uran so are you saying if people believe in the existence of jinns they are automatically crazy so what are you saying about the estimated 1.3 billion muslims on the planet are they all bonkers as well?

The mention of jinns refers to Yaya Jammeh's world of fantasy. His next claim to extra-territory powers will be when he eventually declares being commander of jinns. The mention of jinns refers to him alone. It has nothing to do with 1.3 million God fearing Gambians. He who told the nation he lost one of his devil companions is the one being associated with the fantastic claims. I cannot see how you want to drag decent Gambians in that muddy pool of Jammeh's evil world of his own making. Where were you when while he ascends to the zenith in search of his lost devil companion? Remember, these are not fabrications. It is the man who wishes to be associated with demons who himself blew the trumpet. Not me, no not me good lady of peace. Sister Omega, you have a great task. The man you stand to defend is in deep muds and very hard to clean. What makes you think that all the writings about this man are false? You are free to stick by Jammeh but must also be fair enough to let others stay where they prefer. The truth will inevitably triumph. |

On this issue of Jammeh going on GRTS to say he lost one of his demons, is hard to beleive. Even if some want us to believe it to be true. To find the truth aboout this. I called some people in The Gambia. One is a NEUTRAL, the other IS MORE OF Anti-JAMMEH.
They are both resident in The Gambia and in the Greater Banjul area, and they both told me emphatically that it is PURE LIES.
So on which GRTS was that programme aired then?? |

Bro Karamba,
Thanks much for your hope-bringing pieces. The electric broom instead of sweeping, lately it has been randomly swapping. Count me as a fan always.
Omega,
I understand your frustration over pseudo-pseudo. That is a shared frustration. Not long ago you saw the thread running “direction of the media outlets.” Personally, I haven't seen much difference with those running the ‘tabloid’ in newspapers or forums and those running the ‘self-denials’ in forums or newspapers. In fact, the later is more annoying. It all sums up to two words “intellectual dishonesty.” I tend to disagree more with those educated ones who cannot think outside the box, for they are nothing but shameless sell-outs. It is another thing; reality check is what both these two groups need. That much, I am in total agreement with you. In addition to the self-proclaimed expertise of psuedo-intellectuals or pseudo-psuedo 'hamut luh hew lekah london makaron, bughaa farleh Yaya rehkat' which never can be seen in practical.
Bro Madis,
The mythical gun that fired at the hotel and killed the 60-year old Dibba from Farafenni was covered by both the point and even Foroyaa. In it Jammeh clearly said to Kebba Dibba of Grts in an interview that his spirit over-powered the man’s evil spirit, eventually leading to the man’s death. Madis, Karamba or Omega, I know none of you believe in that part. Ah’ouzu billahi mina saitann rajeem.
I read the other story of the demonic tussle leading to one escaping for the wilder town, which according to that particular author is being sought for by Jammeh. If the story is true which many here are yearning for, adds to the many other shameful cases attributed to the man. For all I can say,God and the devil don’t dine on the same table. You either worship God or the devil, and not both. That story I thought would have been a good April-fool story. What do others think here? Bro Lurker, don't press that button on them....ha ha!!
Thanks all for the thought-provoking debate. My hand is running-a-rack.
Regards, Dalton.

Dalton1, in as much as we yearn for change back home, we MUST avoid PETTINESS, especially those who run 'exile' online newpapers. Though am NOT a fan of most of these papers, i MUST acknowledge the fact that if BETTER utilized , THEY could very well enhance the power of the INDEPENDENT PRESS.
You are right that story is best suited for APRIL FOOL joke. Unfortunately many have taken the bait even before April came.
But if these ONLINE papers CARRY only GOSSIP, SLANDER and the like, WHERE is their CREDILITY in the fight against 'Bad governance' in the motherland?
Please dnt get me wrong, 'your' paper if you allow me, Gainako, has been doing very well. I enjoyed reading the likes of Demba Baldeh and Lama. Lama i know personally from longtime. A very sharp guy and a gentleman.
I advocate for Credible REPORTAGE. Infact the media is suppose to INFORM, EDUCATE AND ENTERTAIN. But how much of these do these online media offer? They were supposed to be ALTERNATIVE VOICES for PROGRESS and NOT RETROGRESSION.
If i step on toes, my apologies. |

Thanks bro Madis, how i hate to say about them [Demba or Laama] here, to avoid being clicked of supporting them openly because of association. The two are as you described them. They don't like the petty part.
Also, I think jointly, we can unanimously change the direction of the media.
What do you think about jammeh's open pronouncement of dealing with the 60-year old poor Mr. Dibba though? I personally felt that. That is a big shame.
Uncle Suntou,
Your friend Omega is not seeing your mention. I am glad you are still there. I hope she mildly takes you for this important debate you posed to her. Omega, where are you? |

Guys just cool the rhetoric a little bit and lets debate the real issues. The issues affecting the Gambia and its people is not about Jammeh or any individual. It is more about a nation and its people going down the drains in every aspect.
Everyone here has the right or should I say privillege to be on whatever side they want. What is not justified is to ignore the reality of the people affected. No matter who is in power or where ever you are living or from, a decent human being should be concerned about human rights and dignity of others.
There is enough blame game to go round but the buck stops with everyone of us. While I never embrace Jammeh's policies I also strongly think he is a political liability to his people and civilization. His actions are unforgivable to the Gambian people who are victims of his regime.
At the sametime, to sister Omega's point, there are rampant ranting some of which amounts to destruction of our nation's image and peoples' spirit. This is not a backing to Sister O, but an acknowledgment that we as Gambians have a responsibility to the current mess. If some of us debating here were to reveal our previous roles and responsibilities in the Jammeh regime, then some would have gone underground in humiliation.
I have alluded here in a previous posting that the people around Jammeh are more destructive than Jammeh himself. That those who selfishly looted our nation or enjoyed the same privilleges people around Jammeh are enjoying should not come here and act patriotic or innocent.
We need to ask ourselves as Gambians some serious questions. Do we have any responsibility to our nation? Have we in fact abandoned our nation and the most vulnerable of our society for a greener pasture geared towards us and our families only? In fact, if we cannot stay and fight for what we believe regardless of the hardship, then there is little credibility we can exercise over the fight of our country. This is where Jammeh always have upper hand over us.
There is certainly something we can do to have some influence over the economic and social conditions of our people. At no time in history have Gambians been more educated than now. At no time in history have our individual citizens register personal success than now. At no time in history do we have more technically and business savy people than what we have now.
Then one of the questions now is, will we be willing to or patriotic enough to reinvest those skills and resources to advance our nation? What are we doing as individuals to help a neighborhood school or community clinic that we own so such of our welbeing? Are we contributing towards scholarships that will educate kids other than our own families? What about that poor family next door to us which do not have the opportunity to have someone in Europe or Americas helping them out? Who are these people going to turn to other than where they get their daily bread? What is their hope??? How can we convince them otherwise to support Jammeh?
These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves. This is why I said, "talk is cheap" which am a part of. This is why Sister Omega have a point against us as a people.
Word of caution to Sister O, Jammeh has a large share of the blame as leaders make or break the success of a nation. He controls state machinery and resources that non of us have and therefore his vision or dumb policies will largely help make or break our society. While we accept you criticizing our role, we expect you to hold Jammeh responsible for his own actions. That is the civil and decent thing to do. I hope you got the message and considering your background you understand what it means to enslave people. Your conscience will dictate what side you take and it is up to you....

Mawdo Demba,
Thanks for weighing in.
I tell you something, the poetic Omega, got some nice bashings -'spirit walk.' That's what takes my likes. To read and imaginarily walk in the streets of Senegal, by the Gambian atlantic ocean, the sand beaches---nolstalgic memories that gets ones mood of africanism high, giving you pride of being from Africa. That's her. Don't let go on 'spirit walk.' It is a trailblazer poetic bashings, attractive and with true meaning.
"Talk is cheap" is a good one, supposedly to mean, we need action to remove Jammeh or the mess we are entangled in. I totally agree, in fact, i alluded to that fact, we need action movements now. Jointly, we need to shape the direction of the media. It is not only her verdict but most of us. These forums are no less important to any newspaper outlet.
It is a known fact that even Omega agrees that the criminals around jammeh are the worst ones. That's the argument that her and other jammeh supports rely on; that Jammeh doesn't go out to do the crime. But where does that leave such a spiritual leader?
I leave Uncle Suntou & Omega continue on this debate.

morning folks, I like it when sister omega debates because it shows we have an opportunity to object and talk about gambian issues as well as world issues. If i disagree with someone let it be on the issues discussed and not make it personal. Everyone is entitled to their own GOOD OR SILLY OPINIONS . It would be nice if those who can help Gambians become more aware of the media would help them. Many of us have travelled within Gambia and it is not rocket science but some parts are so remote they do no get much outside informatioon. CENSORSHIP is the weapon of the evil/scared/stupid/weak invididuals. If this barrier could be broken Gamiba would take a big leap forward and some of the issues it is facing would start to crumble.
SO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE IN A POSITION TO HELP, IT IS YOUR DUTY TO DO SO. NOT SO

I am not a fan of Jammeh as a president, but I agree with some of his points on this issue. I believe if Africans can unite a little bit like the Europeans, we can definately make some difference. But I think its gonna take a lot to unite us, everybody wants to be the boss. Lets forget about our differences and work towards a better future for Africa. Karamba is right, the blame game is not getting us anywhere, but Sister O is right too, lets try to come up with solution, concentrate on the future instead of the pass. Pointing fingers and blaming each other is kind of childish.
Another thing about the article; I can´t help noticing the gramma erros and spelling erros, the DO should have someone check the articles before printing them. |
