Carnegie Minerals Trespass Trial
Accused Acquitted And Discharged

By Modou Jonga

Magistrate Ayub Johnny Njie of the Brikama Magistrate court on Tuesday 4 March, 2008 acquitted and discharged Willem Wincker and Momodou Jallow. The duo who pleaded not guilty were arraigned in court on 3 March, 2008 and jointly charged for entering the restricted site of Carnegie Minerals Mining Site at Sanyang Kombo South without authority and causing annoyance to officers on duty on the 27 February, 2008, at the said site.

In delivering his verdict, the magistrate in brief noted that the court is of the view that the evidence adduced by the prosecution witnesses is weak. He accordingly acquitted and discharged the duo.

Readers could recall that two officers of the police Intervention unit on duty at the said date at the said site, Alieu Kurubally and Amadou Sanyang have testified. The third accused person Willem Tako Battema, a Senior Diplomat of the United Nation was acquitted on the preferred charge by the court due to his Diplomatic Status.
