How much should a new bed and matress cost in Gambia? A rough guide in english money would be very helpful. I am going to buy one for my guides mother.

I was thinking of sending around £60. I think that is reasonable. |

Bev
Where feasible you may want to consider topping it to £100. That is able to set a head on soft pillows. Sorry if that is way out of your budget. |

They might include the cost of bed covers transport and cola nuts for the rest of the month. |

Lemon time. If I gave my guide £200 I know not a penny of it would be wasted. He is a good Muslim and is only thinking of providing for his family.
I promised I would buy his mum a bed and matress. Perhaps he has included pillows and covers etc....Perhaps he wants her to have the top of the range. He loves her very much and she has just been widowed.
It is for the lady in the picture Ihad posted. SHe welcomes me into her family and cooks for me. A lovely lady.
The issue really is that money is very tight here for me as I am moving house and downsizing. I want to help them but I have no money for 'extras'. That is why I asked the price. I suspect he has INFLATED the price, but for essentials for his family. Not for smoking, drinking and partying. I can understand that. |

But Bev,would it not be much nicer, and more honest, if your guide explained to you, I need a bed and matress costing about £100, but there is also some other item's i need, so can you try to make it £200 please. This way you could then learn the true value of a bed, and also you are not lied to!! |

Yes Tintinto, that is true and would be more honest. But sadly when it comes to money in Gambia I am used to being lied too. That is why I checked in the first place. |

Bev,
When you know you are being lied to - just let people know, that you know, what time of day it is, as well as them.
Be honest and direct, no messing.
