Ok if you do not think by passing the current opposition will work if we cannot break the stalmate, what do you suppose will work? Right now all the oppostion parties are loosing ground, should we let that happend? Am running out of options and I hope you or some one can come up with other options.

I think what we need doing is to be point-blank with the dogmatic PDOIS and their Ayatollah [Halifa Sallah] that their ill-conceived case in this debate is unsellable as it is unmeritorious, untenable and inconceivable, and that it is about time we follow precedents by rallying around the main opposition United Democratic Party without conditions saved for those on policy. If they won't respond positively, then we should be looking forward to building a politically diverse coalition of the willing among politicians outside the PDOIS circle with a whole-hearted moral and heavy financial support from Gambians abroad. I think this is the only way forward. PDOIS and its Ayatollah should not hold us back. After all they have never been a main stream party in the Gambia. Therefore, not having them alone on board would not be a big deal.I think we still have an option and it is the above.

Thanks

Nyarikangbanna,
Can you tell me the reason why the smaller opposition parties oppose the party led coalition idea? It makes perfect sense on the surface but why do you think they are questioning the idea?

ebou4th, you asked a very important question here. the people loose faith because the politicains are not intouch with the people. they look down on the people. arrogance is one big problem on the part of our politicains, instead of being the man of the people they are man of themselves yet they want the people's vote. how funny. no one is a fool now. our politicains need to open up to the people. they need to respect the people. they need to humble themelf's to the people ,then the people will love them and listen to them. any thing else. it will be same old same old . they should stop operating on yahya's platform .they need to connect properly. i know they will be saying ,who is that man to tell us what to do? but heey they have been doing same old thing for ages ,still no impact.yahya is doing what he wish .no one can do any thing about. the people loose faith ebou4th.

Ebou4th, thanks for this question. The reason this; there are people within those parties who feel the leader of the UDP have stolen a previledge which they were born and created for, Leadership. They said he only came to politics because they were banned, and since the ban is now lifted, the former should give them back the previledge. This is the argument for the likes of waa Juwara and O.J. I Don't want to discuss the merit of it because it is just a silly one but it has resulted in them developing a profound hatred for the UDP leader and they want sympathy for that? turf.

As for Halifa Sallah and PDOIS, they said when the all the other parties were banned in 1996, PDOIS was still there and instead of join them to Challenge the Regime in 1996, the proponent of UDP instead formed a different party and because of that they can only be in a coalition headed by themselves [pdois]. These are all silly arguments but they are their close-door arguments. Halifa have said kit once in the open anyway, on Radio 1 FM IN 2001.

All these stuff is about personal hatred for a person who is merely answering to a call of leadership by the founders of his party, something that has long since been endorsed and embraced by party loyalists. But, you know that is their problem. We care less about that. We want to focus on the national problem, not whether Waa Juwara's 'Mansa' Dream is over or whether the sun will once again shine for O.J in Banjul. That is for them to worry about, not us.

Thanks

OJ had "profound hatred for the UDP leader". The same UDP leader defending OJ in court in his lawsuit against the government. Some hatred indeed!!! It seem to me that the problem with the opposition might not be the opposition leaders per se but the devisive ignoramuses who continue to spit hatred and division in their name. It will be very interesting to know what it is that these imbeciles will badly loose in the event of an opposition unity that they are ready to commit suicide to block any such event at all cost. Some godforsaken motives must be slowly eating away whatever is left of their brain cells.

Ebou4th you might pick some answers on this Bantaba topic: Interview With Halifa Sallah On the Launching of his book, The Way forward for Gambian Politics under this link http://www.gambia.dk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5459

Everybody is entitle to your opinions and your own story. Any attempt to distort facts, slander and smearing campaign will be exposed as TECHNOLOGY IS VERY USEFUL AND RECORDS ARE INTACT THROUGH MICRO-CHIP MEDIA STORAGE. The interviews are filed intact as sources of references and exposed the LIES, ALLEGATIONS AND POLITICS OF HATE!

Looking forward to hear dBaldeh's comments on SOUND PROPOSALS AND ACTION PLAN FOR THE WAY FORWARD! Its HISTORY! "Why did the people loose faith in the opposition?" I would recommend for each opposition party leader to be given a copy of OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM to read, re-visit it so as to MEDITAE SOUND VISIONS before its too late to put their houses in order by 2011 (next 3yrs) or would revised it after 2011 for vision 2020.

UNITE WE STAND! DIVIDED WE FALL!

OUT OF MANY ONLY ONE GOAL!

Yes, that is because the UDP leader is an ethical lawyer who whenever in his gown sees himself as an officer of the court and servant of justice. He has distint this role clearly from all aspect of his life.

Moe, you know Gambia is a small country. There are certain things that can't be said here but don't know I don't know OJ. I know what am saying ok. I have absolutely nothing against Oj. As a Gambian, he is entitle to seek for the presidency like any other Gambian and if he chooses to do so that would be his choice. But Gambians too will make their choice in that eventuality.

Thanks

If thats the case i guess no one has the right to question the choice of the people regardless of how many may view the recent and past elections as biased and unfair. I will not say Darboe is a tribalist but he for sure knows how to play the tribal card. Wasn't it him and his cohort that decided to walk out of the Coalation simply because it was a figment of their imagination that Darboe had more votes he should be president and the bororo brother Hamat vice president. Why is darboe so scared of Halifa being president or is it because he is fully aware of the fact that all you have to do is set foot at the front door and people will come runing and worshiping. If Gambia meant anything to the two zeros they would have sacrificed and done whatever it took to ensure Jammeh was out of office. Its obvious he is only a bad man when they feel like it and other times its better to let everyone loose so that they can prove a point. Take a pen write it down, take a picture whatever you have to do to, but read these writings Halifa will be the next Gambian president. Pdois has always been a party for the future, meanwhile Gambians are not educated enough to know what PDOIS stands for but i will assure you the time will come..................Peace

Moe,
What is the other side of the story you were eluding to? What according to you caused the fallout?

What makes you think Halifa can manage to win the presidency when PDOIS is not currently a major opposition party? Halifa could not hold on to his seat in parliament, what do you think will reverse the hearts and minds of Gambians to suddenly embraced his philosophy?

Do you think it is fair to ask Darboe to step aside when he leads the major opposition party?

While I agree with you that PDOIS's preaches politics for the future, dont you think their platform is light years ahead of the ordinary Gambian?

APRC should not leave office at all costs, there has to be a vialiable option. The July 22 revolution has set a presidence in the Gambia (the military has tasted power) this should be carefully taken into consideration when calling for change, we cannot afford to have anybody in office. The next leader has to be a very strong leader to avert another military take over, in fact I am begining to entertain the notion that APRC is both a cause and a blessing at this juncture becuase I do not see anyone right now who can fill the void, a weak leader will turn Gambia into another Nigerian of 80s and 90s.

Ebou4th, you see, this is the kind of disingiunty I was talking about. Even before the last presidential election, Darboe had more votes from Serrekunda central [Halifa's former constituency] in the 2001 presidential election than Halifa had in the 2002 parliamentary election. In the last presidential election Darboe had almost five times more votes than Halifa. How can any reasonable person then even think of Halifa being Darboe's match? That is by all account ludicrous and perverse on the real facts. Beside, Darboe leads the biggest party. That gives legitimacy to his claim on the flagbearership. These are the facts but when people want to talk about it, they bring about their nasty and fictious tribal animosity that never exist. They will tell you it was the UDP who left the coalition but are never ready to accept the facts that necessited that decision. Nobody coerced UDP to join NADD. They went in at their own free will and came out when the coalition's machinery was set to work against them. As I have said here before, UDP made a lot of compromises but none of them was reciprocated by goodwill from the other players except NRP, and this is not to mention the smearing campaign that the NADD machinery had grotequely directed against them even though they were in the same union.. I hope Moe will answer your questions.

Thanks

Moe, Halifa have said he would never stand for election again. He said the last parliamentary election was his last one, win or loose. So how comes you expect him to become the next president. Is he planning a coup or rebellion? Please let us know. By the way, as Gambians, we are all entitle to seek that office.

Thanks

Ebou4th! Can assure that all allegations against Halifa cannot be substantiated by reference to any INTERVIEWS, STATEMENTS OR REMARKS in any news media, open political meetings or privy to any private exchanges. There are records archived here at Bantaba and I would produce them to assure that Halifa never vie for PRESIDENCY. It was the inevitable that grant him the flagbearership to save N.A.D.D totally shattered by the TRAITORS.

There were power struggles, dis-agreements and pending negotiations. Term limit was an issue amongst others. Darboe was the choice for flagbearer and all attempts to convince them were fruitless. They didn't gave valid reasons corresponding with Nyaring's ALLEGATIONS.I can remember Sidia Jatta declaring that "HISTORY WILL JUDGE!".
