Brothers and Sisters, i recieved a private mail today from Bantaba.I have been warn of my usage of language.Where is the freedom of speech? What are we fighting for?I think is freedom of speech.I dont think i have ever used an unacceptable language.I participate on "TALK" on the Aljazeera website and used the same language but never been given a warning. Are we fighting a loose battle? Are we fighting for something we ourselves doesnt believe in?Are we just hypocrites?Comon Momodou Camara, you live in Denmark, where people enjoy freedom of speech.Denmark where people can make a cartoon of the prophet.I have never used a vulgar language that is unacceptable to freedom of speech. If i do i will sincerely apologise. Is Karamba lobbying the admin to ban me?Well, the truth is my weapon, and if i am not allow to tell the truth here then all, justice loving people should quit the bantaba.Bantaba why do you allow some members here to used extreme insults against the president`?So it is ok to used vulgar against the President, but when it comes to attacking individuals, that is unacceptable.I dont join a battle, with group of people who dont even know what they are fighting for, what their mission are.I am dissapointed.
Here is the private message send to me by the Bantaba Admin. You can read it and send me a comment.
Mr Justice, I want to remind you that Bantaba in Cyberspace is not an American cowboy bar where one can constantly use all kinds of vulgar language. We are Gambians and it is unusual to come to a Bantaba and insulting on a daily basis, at least not in my village. You are expected to make your points here without being vulgar.

It seems like a polite reminder.
But in principle I am against censorship. I believe if you let people speak their minds then you see their true colours. It can be more powerful that way. In UK the IRA were censored for mnay years. Then when they were allowed to speak it actually turned many people away from their extreme view.
I think on bantaba if people say things you dont like there are 2 ways to deal with it:
1. Go quiet and dont rise to the bait.
2. Argue back.
Good intellectual discussions should always be about issues and never be personal. Swearing has no part in good debates.
We are all here by choice and can all choose to go away if things dont suit us.
I am posting much less than I did in the beginning. Partly because my job is more demanding, partly because things get repetitive and partly because I dont like the tone of a few people.
I hope to report back about my recent trip to Gambia once I am on school hols. |

Many speak but few understand the spoken word.
Is it justice that after Momodous hard work to make it possible for Janko to discourse and exchange with others, to sit by and watch Janko drive members away with his standoffish language? When Janko very well knows with that kind of language, he would not get a single member on his forum.
Mr. Justice: justice is not a one-man-band but an orchestra that combines different instruments and tones to create a grand harmony; it is a consensus not despotic. Justice taken is justice given.
JUSTICE in itself is neither absolute nor universal. Justice is the collection of value judgements of a people and works the same way as the saying “One man’s meat (justice) is another mans poison (injustice)”. What is justice for a people could be an injustice for other people. Therefore, justice is contextual and different from context to context, from people to people, or from place to place. Secondly, there is no justice without injustice and justice in itself does not guarantee equal rights or righteousness. Justice is normativ, is about law not equality.
It is one thing to have an opinion and to be critical of an idea but quite another to be possessed by an idea, that is petites- ness in my view and has no place in an intellectual discussion nor is it progressive, one has to be able to see the forest beyond the tree. Boldness is a sign of weakness Freedom of speech is also about having a mutual respect for discussants and to maintain an atmosphere of give and take. It is about making ones points heard with humbleness not with boldness because one is not speaking to an empty space. Freedom of speech is possible because of the relationship between the speaker and the audience without whom there is no speech. For example if there were no members in this forum, there would be no discussion.
gambiabev, “I am posting much less than I did in the beginning /---/partly because I don’t like the tone of a few people”, that is barely a reaction of freewill.

Exercise your freedom of speech and RIGHTS but intimidation and THREATHS tantamounts to infringement of other peoples RIGHTS. Lets focused on ISSUES rather than PERSONAL traits. |

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

mr justice, i am happy that you live in a society that allows you to have access to the internet and be were you have been educated to a level were you can argue and debate. for me it is the tone or your language, did you not call me ignorant. think about that . Sometimes you come across as mr angry for me it is all about your tone. but you can stay on the bantaba, because freedom is just that, i do not have to answer you, and others will make the decisions on what to do, but if alienate people and they do not answer to you what fun would that be on the bantaba, boring. i agree with Bev, sometimes it is repetitive. No one has banned you yet, just chill. |
