could you please give oppinions on these solar chargers?
i've shown the prices because i would like to know if there might be a cheaper place to buy them.

Do you think this would be useful and would one of these be suitable as a wedding gift?

http://www.sunshinesolar.co.uk/item--Sunshine-Solar-Mobile-Phone-Charger-accessories--SS916A
£17.95 = around D846

http://www.sunshinesolar.co.uk/item--Sunshine-Solar-DC-Charger-Amorphous-2-2W--SS926A
£35.00 = around D1645

this second one is twice the cost but i do not know if it is worth paying this price because both of these chargers do the same things.

Hello Janyanfara. You can buy all solar equipment at Gamsolar. Kotu, close to the fire station. I can give you monday more details about the company. I contacted them before.

"TTT Inc. Holding Group has formed the TTT GAMBIA DEVELOPMENT COMPANY as a 50-50 Joint Venture with the GAM Solar company of The Gambia. GAM Solar is the largest renewable energy firm in The Gambia. The aim of the joint venture is implementation of a wide range of renewable energy and small/medium scale food processing projects in The Gambia for local and export markets.

Company profile

GAM-Solar Energy & Engineering Co. Ltd. is a leading renewable energy and engineering company based in The Gambia, dedicated to the promotion and marketing of new energy technologies and energy efficiency for sustainable development. GAM-Solar’s offices are located at Manjai BB Highway, Kotu East, Kombo Saint Mary’s Division, Serrekunda.
Owners of the company are Omar M.M. Touray, Electrical Engineer, and Jan H. Noteboom, Mechanical Engineer by profession.

GAM-Solar Energy was registered in May 1998.
The company’s activities are in four different areas: marketing Photo Voltaic (PV) solar electricity systems, solar water pumping, solar water heating systems (SWH) and energy efficiency compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
The company’s experience in The Gambia is the installation and after sales services (maintenance) of some 1000 Solar Home Systems, 32 larger rural village solar water pumping systems (up to 200,000 ltrs/day capacity), and battery bank backup systems for the private sector. Additionally some 550 portable solar lanterns were marketed.

GAM-Solar’s activities started when it received a subsidy for a PV pilot project from the Dutch Government (DGIS, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) on the basis of a feasibility study conducted by Ecofys Consultants of The Netherlands in 1998. The project was a preparation for a large-scale program for implementation of (rural) solar electrification with the objective to provide household and business electricity through the installation of solar home systems and portable PV lanterns. Implementation of the pilot project was completed in April 2001..

In November 2001 Isofoton S.A. of Spain and GAM-Solar Energy have been awarded a tender by the European Union for solar water pumping in 49 rural villages in The Gambia (approximate contract value USD 900,000). The contract is financed by the 8th European Development Fund National Indicative Programme. Isofoton supplies the hardware while GAM-Solar installs the systems and provides the after sales services and system maintenance.

To date 32 village pumping stations are in full operation and provide clean potable water to some 60,000 villagers. In the ongoing installation program before the year’s end a total of 49 villages with 80,000 people will have clean drinking water through the application of solar energy pumping systems installed by GAM-Solar.
To maintain and sustain the solar systems the villagers pay a fee for every m3 of water produced. This maintenance program created an active rural network for GAM-Solar, which as part of rural development will be used to supply the villages with additional (energy) services and income generation projects.
Additionally 6 other village water pumping systems financed by NGO’s will be added this year and a contract for electrification and water pumping for 17 rural health centers financed by the Gambian government and World Bank has been awarded to GAM-Solar by Gamworks.

Next to many private clients the company has delivered services (electricity and water) to various NGO’s such as Action Aid, Village Aid, Christian Children’s Fund, Human Rights The Gambia, Unicef, Hands together for The Gambia, Banyaka Foundation and power and water supplies to many clinics and schools.

GAM-Solar Energy employs 18mployees (February 2005).

Just invite us all. A lot of the Bantaba family want to visit your wontherfull country during the rain season. Tickets and accomodation are cheap. And to help the Gambian farmers we can work on the fields. That would be a nice and original experience for a lot of toubabs...

Keep in mind that solar panels and the infrastructure needed to use it is very expensive.. Succes. By the way where do you want to install these panels (the village I mean)and for what purpose ?

hi Jede,
both of the solar panels i put links to in my first post are portable and need no infrastructure - they are for charging mobile phones, other devices and batteries.

the green shop website which i have posted here is an environmentally friendly shop and has lots of information on there about the types of products available.
