Rambo Asked To Appear In Court
By Bakary B. Ceesay

Councillor Ousman Jatta, alias Rambo, who had just breathed the air of freedom after being held for over one year incommunicado, has told this reporter that he was called by the Police at Bakau Police Station and told that the crime management coordinator (CMC) of police had instructed that he should appear at Kanifing Magistrates Court today to answer to pending charges.

In June last year, he was arraigned at Kanifing Magistrates Court before the then Principal Magistrate, Mr. Kebba Sanyang. He was charged with using abusive language in public, which can be a threat to state security. He was subsequently remanded for almost two weeks before being granted bail. As the trial proceeded, he was re-arrested by the police and held incommunicado. The Magistrate had promised to strike out the case if the prosecution continued to fail to produce the accused (Rambo) in court.

He said, “I will strike out the case as I did to other cases, this case is not exceptional.” However before the subsequent proceedings, the magistrate was appointed SoS for Justice.

Can some one be punished for one crime twice under the new Gambian constitution?

If the police called Rambo to appear before a court for a crime which they unlawfully seized him and held him for more than one whole year with no respect to the courts but only rules made from Kanilai,I would want to wait and see what the courts would do now.As they now desperately want to see the down fall of this man who they see as a pain in their strive to subjugate Gambians and today want to use the very court they disrespected when it asked them to produce Rambo and they denied having him.Lets all wait and see what the courts would do now.

As for the call, I belief as ward councilor elections are just around the corner, they are now trying to stop the Famous Ousman from contesting the Bakau councilor seat which the APRC knew well that if allowed, Rambo would win with an even wider margin. As soon as the elections are over, they would seem as if nothing happened. Lets wait and see.

I think it is high time for the gambian people to rise up and demand for justice, rule of law, and good governance. I wonder how Ousainou Darboe feel about his supporters being continuously harrased by the Kanilai lunatic. If he value his supporters' live as he value his own life, I think he should not be indefferent to their maltreatment. Mr. Darboe is afraid even to demand that all his supporters wrongfully detained by Jammeh be released immediately and unconditionally.

He went to the courts twice to seek the release of Rambo and Kanyiba. If my memory serve well, in each of those instances, the court ordered the duo to be unconditional releazed from detention and the police and NIA refused to order. You would expect a true leader to demand their releaze or, resort to so form a peaceful demonstartion, which is allowed under our constitution. Instead, he left them to rot in illegal detention.

Since Mr. Darboe and the UDP were comfortable with the condition of the fallen comrade, Kanyiba and Rambo, the AI staffers show more concern for the lives of the duo and ventured into looking for them by risking their own lives in the process. Without their bravery, Ramboa and Master Tamba would still be confined to the filthy detention centers in the Gambia.

I am very concern for the safty of Rambo, Jammeh's tugs would do anything to make their king happy. They ahve demonstrated this several times in the thirteen-year illegal rule. Jammeh is becomeing bigger than the Gambia. His personal wishes and aspirations, which are mostly contrary to those of the Gambian people take presendence over everything. He must be stopped now. Only a concerted effort by gambians led by a brave and visonary leader could stop Jammeh and his tugs. I think Mr. Darboe has demonstrated his disqualification for a strong leadership.

Gambians need to start looking for a leader who would not be scare to stand toe-to-toe with Jammeh and demand that he respect our laws. Personally I am ready to support any more, either democratic or not, to remove this crazy monster from the helm of our government.
