3. Gumaneh’s story must be handled with caution. On the first day of fasting, he has gone sleeping at midday to shorten time or make time move faster. It a normal day in Basse, as humid as it can be. When he woke up to see how far the sun has traveled, it was overhead/center. He went back to sleep without patience and came minutes later, and to him, the sun didn’t move an inch. Gumaneh repeated this to the fourth time and finally gave it up. He called to his wife to give him the gun, locally known as kartuse to shoot the sun down.
4. Jome’s scenario was very typical of the Serers, his’ was simple. He was late to get up for his morning meal before commencing the fast. He ordered the wife to get the window/door blinds and curtains down to darken the room so he can eat his meal. Jome would have made it just fine if he wasn’t a neighbor to Imam Jallow who heard him uttering the comment.
