I happen to read a news article about 15 years ago in which he used to come to gambia and hunt crocodiles during the colonial period. infact he shot one of the largest in the Gambia.

I believe if it is him, he should be the Patron of some nature conservation group. May be the Royal Society for the protection of ....
Please enlighten me.

His photgraph is in the Archives in the Gambia with the crocodile and infact the Bristish papers published it then. I think the crocodile was shot at Sofa Nyama Bridge. This is the bridge which borders LRD and CRD.

Sofa Nyama itsself is Fulani. It was said that when musa Molloh fought Foday Kaba and won, foday ran and crossed the river. Musa told him if iget you you will pee. foday being not good in Fulani said if i pee you will eat it. It should have been drink and hence Nyama from the word Nyam meaning to eat.

Sofa is from the word soff which means to pee in Fulani

May be i should be more clear. I saw the article 15 years ago but the event actually took place during the colonial period. This was pre 1965

Sorry Gambiabev.
Here the correct situation about the presidents of the WWF. It seems that Prince Philip still plays an important role within the WWF.

1962-1976: HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands:
Known as the "Flying Prince of Conservation", HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands is the Founding President of WWF, a position he held from 1962 to 1976.
His Royal Highness also established the endowment fund The 1001: A Nature Trust in 1971, and continued to be deeply involved in WWF and its activities throughout the subsequent years. Prince Bernhard died in 2005 at the age of 93.

1976-1981: John H. Loudon:
Better known as "the Grand Old Man of Shell", John H. Loudon, a Dutchman, headed Royal Dutch Shell from 1951 to 1965. The son of former Shell Board President, Hugo Loudon, he joined the company in 1930, when he went to work in the Lake Maracaibo oilfields of Venezuela.

He was President of WWF from 1976 to 1981, and also a member of The 1001. John H. Loudon died in 1996 at the age of 90.

1981-1996: HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh served as International President of WWF for 16 years until his retirement at the end of 1996, but his continuous involvement with the organization goes back to its foundation in 1961 when he was appointed President of WWF-UK. Now, as President Emeritus, he still works actively on behalf of the organization.

During these 40 years His Royal Highness' contribution to the organization has been inestimable - visiting WWF projects in over fifty countries on five continents, promoting conservation issues at the highest governmental and corporate levels and helping with fundraising and awareness promotion.

1996-1999: Syed Babar Ali
Babar Ali is a Pakistani national and was Managing Director of Packages Ltd. in Lahore from 1955-1973 and later became Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs & Planning. Babar Ali was first elected as a Trustee of WWF International in 1973.

He also served as Chairman of both the WWF International Advisory Council and the WWF Conservation Committee (later the Programme Committee), and was appointed Vice-President and Honorary Treasurer, before being elected President in 1996 to succeed HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. He retired as President of WWF International at the end of 1999 and is now WWF Vice-President Emeritus.

2000-2000: Prof. R.F.M. "Ruud" Lubbers
Ruud Lubbers served three terms as Prime Minister of the Netherlands between 1982 and 1994, thus becoming the longest serving Dutch Prime Minister. A graduate of the Netherlands School of Economics, his political career began in 1973 when he joined the Den Uyl government as Minister for Economic Affairs.

He continued in Parliament as Senior Deputy Leader, and later Parliamentary Leader of the Christian Democratic Alliance. He became President of WWF International on 1 January 2000, but only served for one year as he was appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from 2001-2005.

2000-2001: The Hon. Mrs Sara Morrison
Sara Morrison is a former Director of GEC and a non-Executive Dirctoer of Carlton Television Ltd. and Kleinwort Charter Investment Trust PLC. She is a member of the UK Round Table for Sustainable Development, and sits on the Council of the Family Policy Studies Centre.

On 1 January 1998 Mrs Morrison became Chairperson of WWF-UK and was elected to the Board of WWF International. She was elected Vice-President of WWF International in November 2000 and served as Acting President in 2001. She is now Trustee Emeritus of WWF-UK.

2001-present: HE Chief Emeka Anyaoku
Eleazar Chukwuemeka Anyaoku was elected third Secretary-General of the Commonwealth by Heads of Government in 1989, serving two consecutive terms from 1990 to 2000. A Nigerian national, born at Obosi, he studied Classics at University College, Ibadan, and graduated in 1959 with a London University Honours Degree as a College Scholar. After two years with the Commonwealth Development Corporation, and four years in the Nigerian Foreign Service, including a period at the United Nations, he joined the Commonwealth Secretariat in 1966.

Aside from a short term as Nigerian Foreign Minister in 1983, Chief Anyaoku spent 34 years with the Commonwealth and held the positions of Director for International Affairs, Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General. Chief Anyaoku has also been a member of the International Board of the United World Colleges and the Governing Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, the Malaysian Commonwealth Studies Centre at Cambridge and the World Commission on Forestry.

He is now also currently President of The Royal Commonwealth Society and President of The Royal Africa Society, Vice-Chairperson Board of the South Centre, Geneva, and Trustee of the British Museum, UK.

Chief Anyaoku became President of WWF International on 1 January 2002.

I agree!! Huntig for 'sport' is nothing else but decadent. And: How can someone be so stupid to feel like a real hunter, while hunting is no risk in our times? I have an uncle who is of that kind. A real contemptible man, macho to the bones, but deep inside, he fears women. To me, this seems to be typical....

Well
You are both right.Prince philip is the Duke of Edinburg and has known the Gambia, been there even during the handing over of power to the then prime minister and latter president Sir david(Latter Dawda Kairaba)Jawara.
My brother Kondorong was right about the crocodile being killed at Sofanyama bolong which linked the CRD(former MacCarthy Island Division) with the LRD.
But the history OF Mansa Musa Alfa molloh (The then king of Fulladu, who now lies in his tomb/grave at his then Capital--Keser-Kunda) and Foday Kaba Bakary Dumbuya happened when the king of Kiang-Mansa wally Sanneh asked Musa Molloh 4 help against Foday Kabba who was helped by A great worrior from the kingdom of Kaabu called Demba Hajada.
When Foday asked the people of Jeneri(then capital of Kiang) to accept Islam, they refused and thus Foday with the help of Demba Hajada, laid seige to the town.No one was allowed in or come out thus the people became hungry. Some alledged that Foday's interest was,He show a beautiful girl who was already married and wants that girl so he decided to use Islam to justify his attack. So the people asked Musa 4 help.
Musa was very fearful of Demba Hajada but does not fear Foday as he had many wars with Foday and difeated Foday in all.
When Musa came, He was doing all to avoid Demba Hajada as his talismen told him to avoid him and at the time Demba was also looking for only Musa Molloh. When they came face to face,Musa asked Demba to Join Him to defeate Foday as Foday is not brave as according to Musa. But Demba would have none of that as He hated Musa Molloh. They had a clash and Musa ran away to avoid any further confrontation (His talismen told him if he could avoid Demba Hajada,he musa will not die at battle but on hisown bed)followed by Demba Hajada(not by Foday Kabba) from Kian Jeneri up to Pakaliba(Last village in Jarra)Musa tried with His horse and jumped the bolong(tributary),when Demba came to jump, his horse tripped and broke it's back.Musa looked at him and said to Him(Demba Hajada) in fula:" Sa a yawti bolongo O,a sofai a nyama" which means:"if you crossed this bolong, you will piss and eat/drink it"....to be continued.

Now back to HRH Prince Philip. He ude to be the president of the Duke of Edinburg Award A society I was a member and I have got the book of the history of the Royal families of europe including the United Kingdom. So I know some, espacially the House of Hanover-: Victorians and Tudors kings.
I was also a scout leader and was amongst the escorts of Princess Ann during her visit to Georgetown(Janjan/Buray ..Another History of two brothers who joined to found the town....Jan-jan bury is traditionally know 4 it long deep rooted cultural event graced by Kankurang dancing which is celebrated evry year.)while I was a student at Armitage High School.
God when I think of towns/villages like:
MID:
Janjanbury/ Niamina Dankunku(Maribantang Jannehya nyokala koreh)/Katamina/Sambang/Piniai sare pateh,Kudang Kumbanyi/Bansang/ Njie kunda/Koli kunda/Dobo Kuntaur Kaur/Jahali,Pacharri, Yero Beri Kunda(YBK) Sankuly kunda serebojo/Tumani tenda ect
