I came across this posting, and the interview with the person in charge,it appears to me obvious that this man could not care less about the problem, even though its his job,am I missing something here? KMC has had NEW vehicles given to them in the past, but Oh dear they have broken, why? because they have not been looked afer PROPERLY,too often Mechanics, are unskilled ,very good at taking things to bits but putting them back together properly they cannot manage that at all. This service is essential to prevent illness caused by stinking rubbish becoming established in our country.
Rubbish is not Dropped by KMC but by people, this piece from the Point may help to solve the problem of Rubbish

Thanks toubab1020 on those links above. In my opinion Government should take the issue of PUBLIC & ENVIRONMENT HEALTH, SAFETY 7 HAZARDS very seriously and upgrade the standards. They need further INVESTMENT ON PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAMS to sensitise them, support them and coordinate THE HEALTH MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS. Levying FINES AND PENALTY CHARGES is not the only solution as Gambia should operate like other modernise countries.
I would like to see that; there is A PUBLIC HEALTH MANGEMENT AUTHORITY consituted and hybrid (jointly operate) between Department Of Health, Social Welfare and National Environment Agency (N.E.A), to coordidate all health & safety hazards and The Environment programs, management and cleansing services. That authority can curb in all Public Health Officials to work out strategies and programs and under study certain Europen standards or other advance countries in terms of HEALTH & SAFETY, HAZARDS, LITTER DISPOSAL & MANAGEMMENT, RE-CYCLING, THE ROLE OF MUNICIPALITIES, SEWAGE SYSYTEMS, LEGISLATION etc etc etc.
At greater Banjul the Municipalities should revise the crude approach to litter disposal by encouring dumping sites at UNCHECKED CORNERS OF THE STREETS, MARKET PLACES AND WITHIN THE NEIGHBOUHOOD, no proper bins allocated to the various homes and upgrade the standards with DIFFERENT (COLOUR)PROPER BINS for differenting what stuff or material should go to each bin e.g re-cycling products i.e bottles, papers, plastc, stale food, liquids, tins, metals and other typical stuff!
Government should give this a priority and further investment and resources allocated. SENSITISATION ON THE MEDIA (NATIONAL T.V.) is very important also.
Thanks! |

Good point! It requires MASSIVE INVESTMENT to revolutionise or modernise than relying on "Tesito!" "Set settal!" etc.
Thanks! |

Well said, but I really doubt if the political will exists at the moment. The "dump",( you couldn't call it landfill,) that existed in Manja until recently would still exist today had not some enterprising Indians decided that there was cheap land to be had for a little work, that's an exception I grant you, what profit can someone make from a few bags of rotting rubbish?Gambians must be sentised to the fact that rubbish carries illness if left to rot.Without a big stick (like laws backed with fines or jail as an alternative) to make people aware that they must do things, nothing will get done. |
