There is no report of Gambian casualty yet. Obviously there is casualty. There is a lot of emergency assistance. I share the sorrow about this bridge; a route to work & school for my whole family, moreso just humans who use it daily. This bridge for july 4th fireworks, leisure, fishing on the times I am out there. I once cried about a flood of the mississippi during 'tsunami' and 'hurricane' days.
I share the feelings of the victims.

Thanks Alhassan & Kay. I will share more as time permits.
But here is a bridge, 35w S, route to the big mall of America & Airport. So on one side of town, the 35w is no more for them, either south or north. One would truly miss the beauty of down Town on 35 W South which truly gives the picture of down town Minneapolis. It is also close to the famous U of M. Now, for a fact, over 140 000 thousand cars use this bridge daily, so it is a much needed bridge. The deepest areas of this river, 200 ft, so it can swallow a lot. A good place to exercise, jog, fish and even boat-ride. Now, the city's twin, St Paul will also feel the heat, since it is by a major high way, 94 W/E. Actually, the 35 links to almost all other routes; I-494/5.E/W, I-94.W/E, I-394. W/E
What will happen here, traffic conjunction, and many won't trust crossing the other bridges towards the south, West or East. You just have to cross some bridge on the Mississippi, somewhere, because it divides the city with its wonderful smile.
Population up to 400,000, and generally people are so welcoming and diverse, on a note called "Minnesota nice" by their Wisconsin neighbors, about 20 mins drive West of where incident occurred.
Though seven bodies discovered for now, 200 ft Mississippi will produce more corpses, sadly to say. But like all other places, this area is home to upto 500 Gambians. A great home for Somalis and Liberians also, together with other African nationalities.
But it is good to be somewhere when certain incidents have to happen but not at the place where it will happen, especially if it is tragedy. I wish the people of the city a faster recovery from the tragedy. I hope it will never happen again. The victims and families must just move on; it could have been worst on certain days, especially July 4th celebration (fire works) which is done at that spot.
Now, investigators would spent time giving people reason(s) for its collapse. Terror was completely ruled out, and for a fact, it was undergoing maintenance. It is certain that people need more answers for their questions after a complete rescue operation is performed.
sure, it ain't the big bang! Amen.

Kay,
I hope they are fine. I think the number is being narrowed to four, but the spot of the incident is 200ft deep.

I know quite a few Gambians as well as some American ex-College class mates residing in that City. I have heard from some and yet to from some others, I hope the rest are OK. My hearts goes to those who've lost or are missing love ones on this terrible tragedy. |

Some registered progress; collapse of the I-35W bridge
I think that the support accorded to this tragedy is admirable. This is one part to win anyone's heart.
Tim Pawlenty is a strong fellow, and in his efforts to ensure a check to tragedy is moving. He ordered all the bridges to be inspected. This is a good move, coming from a visionary leader.
The depeest point of the Mississippi is about 200 ft. It complicates bridges to bear down-peg pillars.
An accident of the sort is just a surprise. The Mississippi in itself is friendly.
Links below are encouraging.
