I am sure Gambians will truly mourn this one; departed soul; a camara fula, one time at Radio Gambia as news announcer in pular. If news from the Gpost is to go by, threaded by one Bailo Jallow, we lost a public asset, Musa camara, known to be very active in national issues. Many of us grew knowing the guy as an announcer at the Gambia Radio. He was a true Radio journalist with good mastery of the pularr, and other languages.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. No doubt his sudden demise while on active duty, will create a gap for those in love of his journalistic work. As well, his true self; a man who lived for the struggle in his own way, being a journalist serving the people. it's indeed a choice among the many others of worldly professions.

rest in peace!

Brother Dalton1,

Musa Camara served as national asset in a wider sense. This is a sad news for those who knew what Musa did. Here was a man who served in the need of service. To make sure he was never late for duties, Musa was ready to walk to work on foot at Mile 7 Radio Studios. After closing, he had no problem walking back on foot. He served the community in greater capacity. His house was like an extension of his work place. All that he did, without any inclination to financial benefit. Not only will his immediate family feel the gap, it is the entire Gambia sharing this loss. He was a cultivated mass media guru. He served the government and people of Gambia. The people and government did little for for him or nothing. May his soul rest in perfect peace. May the rewards of his sacrifice for mankind be extended to him in paradise.

I just passed thru bakau just as they were heading to the cemetry.. the amount of people & cars that were present was a rare sighting... i personally dont know him, but from the turn up rate, am assuming he's definately loved by a lot of people... the entire town was literally silent as the convoy with the casket followed by a large crowd made their way in..

Thank you both for your kind rejoinders. Here is a poem of love dedicated, and a prayer to the late Musa Camara. Rest in peace.amen.

MUSA CAMARA; A POEM IN MEMORY.

Author: Dalton

So of the old announcers
At the long time Radio Gambia
Was a man of the Fulani nobles
A man denoting a true struggle
Accompanying the ages
Of time gone and present.
Here is the Fulani Bilal
A Gambian Bilal
Like the Bilal of Rasuul
Calling with a melodious voice
Resembling the early birds
In the start of the morning struggle
So when ‘Ajraeel’ came to visit thee
Carrying Il’s message of return
Snapping the soul from the main tree
To gap and break the bond of love
Off he [Ajraeel] takes back to the lord
Almighty, owner of most high knowledge
Creator and giver of breathe
The soul that He [Il) perfected from
A cloth of blood
And came the group of scripter angels
Questioning in thy grave
Who is thy lord?
What is thy book?
Who is thy messenger?
So thy lord will account
For thy worldly engagements
So if the book be given in
Thy right hand, so be ablaze sweet heavens
With thy fruits and thy chaste women
Nay, if thy book on the left hand,
Then ablaze the ‘sijjin’ of torment
May the Il forbid the later for all.

O lord of mankind
Show mercy to this departed soul
And the Muslims that departed before us
And my parents, my friends and my loved ones
And the followers of the true books of the past
King Najassi of Abyssinia
Dr. Langlee of Gambian land
And pope John of Rome
And those that showed love
To ummatu Rasuul
Amen.

Rest in peace proceeded soul
So we will join you some day
In no time, in no time
So I thread humbly to mourn
To cry
To bitter
To pray
To sense
To reflect
To call
To remember
To be grateful
To love

-for all your favors, love, care, guardian, and support.

I thank You[Il] for my soul
For my parents
For my health
For my food
For my shelter
For my offspring
For my family
And for everything within scope of knowledge
seen and unseen by human's scope.
Note: written freely. The poem dedicated to the Musa Camara of Radio Gambia is also extended in rememberance to Dr. Langlee, an airplane crash survivor with prsident Jawara in 1981, after the kukoi coup who recently met his demise in DC [USA]. It is also extended to all the muslims that departed souls before us, especially our parents and loved ones. Not forgetting Pope John Paul and the many other lovers of ummah of Rasuul. It is also extended to my soul in memory-to-be some day.

'innal lil lahi wah inna elleh hi raji'oon.'

THE END.

Amen. Yes, i would think so. I have only known him as an annoucer at Radio gambia, who was honored to attend many Fulani functions. I recall the Fulani Fiddle before he delivers the news. the guy was of a good moral character, and he earned a lot of respect from those that worked with him, truly.

For The Gambia, our homeland, we strive and work and pray,
That all may live in unity, freedom and peace each day.

Musa Camara lived beyond the duty of a Radio Announcer. He lived and died as a social servant without expecting money pay. He lived in greater harmony with all those who met him while on his brief journey on this temporal planet. He was well tuned with all age brackets and all social settings. A man free from grudge and envy. No doubt his was a happy life. In social interaction, he was a great conversationist with very soft temperament. He did not argue to anger. He had a joyful character and shed light of life wherever he sat. If there are good characters worth emulation, there is none better than the brand Musa Camara belonged. Bala Musa Camara, you have fulfilled your task on planet earth, a meaningful life was yours. If the Alimighy prefers to reward you at this moment, may your soul rest in peace.

Indeed a great loss. He was very enthusiatic with the job he was doing in Radio Gambia. I met him in person abt 10yrs at a friend's office near Radio Gambia. He was respectful and thru out my chat with him i realized that he loved knowledge and respected those endowed wit it.

May Allah the Almighty Grant him a place in highest Jannah. May his family have the courage , energy to endure this tragic loss.

musa camara is indeed from basse mansajang kunda. his father was bakary camara who worked in the commisoner's office in basse as an interpreter. musa have about ten children and was known for peaceful nature by many. he is a mandinka by tribe but in mansajang mandinkas are fulas and fulas are mandinkas .i mean every fula can nearly speak perfect mandinka and vice versa .musa's brother of the same mother and father is tombong camara gamtel personel manager.he died of sudden death whilst watching news . it is believe he died of high blood pressure or heart failure.he is about 56 years of age. his fula is more than perfect .he is related to the man whom i spend my high school with , we lost a true friend and family .may Allah grant him jannah.amen.

Santa am a bit confused abt Musa ethnicity(tribe)according to wat you are saying now. As far as i know Tombong speaks fula fluently was a colleague before he joined Gamtel and i regard him as Koto.So Musa Camara being Mandinka is news to me. And certainly to many. There are camaras in Fula as in other tribes. But the external features of both Tombong and Musa are fulani. Was their mum fula? Then is former Vice President Hassan Musa(Andrew) Camara a Mandinka by tribe too?

madis , i don't actually like dwelling into tribal stuff but since you ask i will explain . musa is indeed mandinka. his father was mandinka and tombong is equaly mandinka. tombong is right now in london leaving for banjul may be tuesday . i know the family very well .i did my high school with an extended family of theirs. he too speak fula very well .i stayed in mansajang for one and half year .the home of musa is close to the commisoners residence .there homes are close to the mission head quarters and the buba baldeh end. infact musa's step dad use to look after the newly circumcise males in mansajang. he too speak fula better than many fulas. i very well pointed out that mansajang is a unique place in terms of tribal harmony. my first months in mansajang was very hard as i have to master there unique style of mixing fula and english and mandinka at a go. so tombomg is not unique in the sense that he associate with fulas more than some other tribes but try speaking to him in mandinka. or better still ask him. i can furnish you with his uk number if necessary not i hope i made the subject clear. if most gambian towns can emulate mansajang kunda , we will encounter minimal tribal nonsence.musa's second wife is pulfuta .i don't know about there mother she might be fula.

Nice poem Dalton. I join you guys in mourning the demise of Musa Camara. I don't remember how young I was when i started hearing the voice of Musa Camara on Radio Gambia as he broadcasted news preceded by that characteristic Fulani music. Musa's dedication and love of his job made him a household name in the gambia. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

The case of Musa Camara is clear evidence about ethnic harmony in Gambia. Jammeh coming up with all the divisive means is a way of shattering Gambian Unity. If for more than two decades a non-Fula ethnic served the news service needs of Fula audience without query from the audience, that is marvelous. There are lot of such cases in Gambia where the ethnic divide is least visible when it relates speech and socialisation. What Jammeh seeks to breed in Gambia is alien to our norms. This one case is good food for thought. For now, it is not anything of material relevance to dig into Musa being Fula or Mandinka. He served society regarless of ethnic inclination. That is a great lesson. In the same Gambia, we have second names Jallow and Bah (typical Fula) and yet they know not a word of Fula. In other situations, Mandinkas who migrated from their original settlements to Banjul have some of their offsprings not speaking Mandinka. We also have in Banjul, second names Sagnia (Sanyang) who speak not a word of their original ethic language. That makes more sense when we reconsider the case of Musa Camara who broke the ethnic barrier in a manner one of its type. Once more, shall we join hearts in praying for the departed soul and extend the condolence to his family.
