“The only time you had me on camera was when a fly was on my head, and I used my hand to remove it. You saw me hugging Brother Mandela, why didn’t show that to the world?” Louis Farakhan, NOI leader.

To Sophia Ba: Juneteen in Minnesota

I am a little surprised, which is my I have to piece this report.

Juneteen is short for black celebration of Independence.

This event should have been given full coverage, but to my surprise, not even a picture of the event I can find online. It is a gathering that attracts between 30-40,000 black people. I bet if one black man was to carry a weed or dope pipes that would have gained greater momentum with full coverage by TVs and all the Minnesota Newspapers. Not the juneteen.

I had a long day, drove there with my wife and little baby to grace the occasion and be fanned by the chilling wind of freedom. At around seven pm, the cops already were on their horses started dispersing people, though not in a forceful way.

Sophia Ba & others, I look forward to your commentary on this topic.

Happy juneteen to everyone.

i too. i am long since your admirer. keep being a watchman for the little, the struggling and the oppressed. we all count. every one's 't' counts. we shouldn't be defeated by notions. thank you, and salam back. we are all online reading you.

like the other of the two writers said "talk all, leave none." If my memory serves we well, the quote is respect for Cherno Baba Jallow, Michigan.

the struggle continues.

Thanks Yero Jallow for sending in the link about Juneteenth celebration. This is the first time I've heard about it. Juneteenth celebrations sound like you and your family enjoyed the celebrations. Will you be going again next year? August 1 Emanicipation Day is celebrated in the Caribbean and in Britain amongst the African Diaspora communities, and 23 August by UNESCO the date that Haiti obtained its independence in 1803 as the first African lead independent state post slavery.

Omega,
You are very welcome. I spent a great time with Jamaicans. I wish I was still active at attending their reggae shows. I had a good time being happy with a lot of big guns among them, including Rita, Sizla, Don Campbell, Ziggy and Jimmy Cliff. The later, being a Muslim and a reggae pioneer is my special love. I am glad you enjoyed it.

But the point I was trying to signal and I am sure you get it, this program has been on for long time with this number of attendees yearly. To me, it deserves the best media coverage. It was culturally rich; food of different kinds; music; employment; university adverts; clothing and other materials; books for review with their authors. The Cops though did well on their many horses because my little one had fun waving at them, with a smile from the female cop, and a wave back. For a moment, I started visiting my favorite sites, the “star tribune” and the “pioneer press” but to no avail. But I witnessed many instances where a quarrel between a black man and a gas station man is put on TV or newspaper, to the extent to taint him with dirt.

On an average, the community is very friendly, but there are still a lot of unchallenged things. It means the independence apple fruit is not all the way ripe. Some part of it is still bitter.

“this sounds like a great day, are the plans for next year in place, events like this should be advertise well in advance.” Jamba

Yes, Jamba kiting. I attended series of them, and hopefully by next year God willing, we will have it on many media outlets. Thanks for your interest.

“Black men don't carry weed or dope pipes,do they?” Toubab

Yes, they do just like the many others. The society’s aggression sent a lot of people to the streets. You followed the last thread titled “intelligence” where I complained about society’s isolation of many people. Societies which are so unforgiving. It is a check to growth of minorities. On an average, people are smiley but inside we trample on the seedlings in a way better to offer a gun shot than a smile, but I thank you for your participation.

Yes, my friend Toubab. you are absolutely right. and i took your post from a positive view point. you know you and i are too little, probably to count, but it is the bigger picture. see, our interaction here in it self shows 'tolerance' 'diversity' and 'acceptance'. thanks.

have a good time, my friend.
