Kotu Police Station For the Attention of Inspector Sergeant Duray Corporal Martin and Jobe Copies British High Commision Police Complaints Commission Gambia Experience NIR Gambia Tourist Support Gambia Daily Obsever/Foroyaa
You’re Reference. Missing Person Nenah Bah(Student Age20)
As you know it has been some time since the above incident and the above person was reported missing by her parents. As I have now left the Gambia I now feel safe from further intimidation and false accusations. Hence this letter
As I was the last known person to see the above person alive, you said if anything had happened to her even if there was no evidence I would be held responsible and charged.
In any event on that day you said I would now be charged with kidnapping and abduction which carried a 10 year prison sentence and a 2500,000 Dalsi fine. Also if sex had taken place I would be charged with an offence. As you said under the law it was an offence for sex even if consensual up to the age of 22 if the person was a student. Again which carried a long prison sentence and fine and I would held in Fajara military prison until the court case. Which would take many many weeks
I have now consulted a Lawyer and read the law (The Children’s Act 2005) no where in the act does it state the above and was a complete lie and you used this along with other things to frighten and intimidate me to extract money from me.
You demanded a payment be made of 20,000 Dalasi to be paid on that day. Or I would be charged and taken away to prison I now realize why. If she turned up the next day you could not demand the money. As you know she was found at a friend’s compound a few days later. No dout the arresting officers Corporal Martin and Corporal Jobe were also part of the conspiracy to extort money from me under false pretences
The Government recognizes the reputation of the bumpsters and the effect it has had on tourism and has/is doing something about it. The actions of some corrupt police officers will have the same effect tarnishing the reputation of the whole police force to the detriment of all Gambians
The most despised person in society even above criminals are corrupt police officers supposedly our guardians. As criminals must be brought to justice corrupt police must be exposed for the good of society.
I understand there is a groundswell of opinion that no matter what the situation the police will exploit the situation to make money out of it.
No doubt similar tattics have been used in the past to fraudulently exstort money not only from fellow Gambians and like my self other tourists and now like many others I will now not return to the Gambia
Sorry for your plight with this officers, I hope to see them put before the law if all you said is true. That attitude should not represent the gambia police force who have sworn to serve and protect. But please be assured of the fact that the majority of the Gambians welcomes you back with open hands.
It is the mark of intelligence to entertain an idea without accepting it.
