The Gambian Police have for the first time shamelessly denied holding Chief Ebrima Manneh, a reporter with the pro-government Daily Observer who was arrested by the personnel of the NIA on July 11 2006. Please read on and react.
RE: Chief Ebrima Manneh
Thursday 22nd February 2007 1. I am directed to write and register my concerns with regards [sic] to the above captioned story carried on [sic] your newspaper, [sic] Wednesday 21st February 2007 edition. 2. The story suggested that Chief Ebrima Manneh was arrested and detained at Fatoto Police Station. 3. As far as the Gambia Police Force is concern [sic], Chief Ebrima Manneh was not detained at any Station as suggested by your reporter and therefore that part of the story is untrue. 4. The general public is hereby urged to furnish the police with any relevant information about Chief Ebrima Manneh to assist the Police in their investigation. 5. I wish to further mention that Chief Ebrima Manneh is a popular figure and news of his arrest and detention could not be suppressed by the police or Government in any [incomplete] 6. Please acknowledge receipt. Ebrima Bah (PA) Assistant Superintendent of Police For: Inspector General of Police.
Editor’s Note
It is surprising that the police have only thought it wise to react now to the Chief Ebrima Manneh problem, which began on July 11 2006. Since then, we have been calling on the authorities to tell the general public about Chief Ebrima Manneh’s whereabouts. It is not true that our “story suggested that Chief Ebrima Manneh was arrested and detained at Fatoto Police Station”. It is common knowledge that Chief Manneh is reportedly detained at Fatoto Police Station. In its 12-14 January 2007 edition, Foroyaa carried a story about Chief Ebrima Manneh’s whereabouts on its front page. The story read, “Chief Manneh Detained At Fatoto Police Station.” In it, Chief Manneh was said to have been detained shortly after his arrest at the NIA Headquarters, the Mile Two Central Prisons, Kartong Police Station, Sibanor Police Station, Kuntaur Police Station and finally at Fatoto Police Station. If you had read our story carefully, you would have seen that the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) simply reiterated already known facts and then called for Chief Manneh to be released immediately or be formally charged and brought before an independent court without delay. If the police are really concerned about Chief Manneh’s sudden disappearance, they should start from where he was on July 11 2006. And we are sure that they know where to start from, as he was not an unemployed journalist.
MFWA Urges Chief Ebrima Manneh Release
Wednesday 21st February 2007 The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has called for the immediate release of Chief Ebrima Manneh, a reporter for the Daily Observer. Mr Manneh is alleged to have passed on unspecified “damaging” information to an unnamed foreign journalist. In the absence of any valid charges against him, MFWA said, he should be released immediately or be formally charged and brought before an independent court without delay. The Accra-based media monitoring body lamented the fact that Manneh is languishing in a cell at a police station at Fatoto. Since his arrest on July 11, 2006, Manneh has been held incommunicado for 213 days in various cells, before his whereabouts were detected last month. The government has consistently denied holding him.

The Police Force is better known as the Mafia Force.
The Army, the Rice Patrol.
Ask and the answers will be aplenty.
Our forces are not what they were like in the 70s, disciplined and well trained.
Jah peace
