Kon:
The man wanted to eras part of his family simple because they refused to accepted that he wanted to give the girl to the son of his friend.
But the suggestion of the 3 (mother and son + the doughter) was that the boy is from other tribe !
so he orders his brother to kill them all the 3 if not he will come from the US and do the job by himself , because it is a broken promise for him !
thesame happens 1977/78 around Basse so that the girl throw herself in the well and die! What the father has from this ? nothing except a shame and an opining account with God!
The point is why still tribalism exist even among so very close nation like us
we are almost one family, speaking almost the same language (well except Serahule)
But even among us here in Germany tribalism exist! It might be a taboo to bring it up here but isn't a time to breakthrough?

I see tribalism as a process human elimination in having access to the resources of this world. Human beings create criteria of whatever form to disqualify others so that competition is reduced.

Its unfortunate if it should go this far. Years back tribe was ones security and one was safe within ones own. Today its of no use other than adding spice to the variety of languages making our culture very rich. It should not form the basis for any decision making especially in marriage.

The older people are very serious about promises they make and will die trying to fulfill it. In ancient times people have ran away and never to return because they broke a promise. It was the greatest morale crime to commit.

I read in the journal of Mungo Park about a young man who was killed by the Moors somewhere around Bundu during raids in 1795. His mother went shouting in the village saying that her son never told a lie in his life. A lie and breaking promise were very serious issue in Africa. All the mother cared about was her son having been honest all his life. That was enough consolation.

May be thisman is still hooked to tradition of keeping promise. Its good to keep promise but i think this world has since graduated beyond that and unfortunately many dont care.

Lets pray for them to see light and realise that marriage is about love and the parties should consent to living together.

yes some still are attached with their dignity that some times wents wrong like in this case , A majestic without soul is just man without a face .
One can bring a child in this world and educated he/her as man wish but the the finally steps is up to the God and that child. Its sadly indeed that some of us are still living in the past even among the young generations.
We are talking here in the west about a racist but forgetting that it is burning in our own ground, what a foe for the Mankind!

mbay, time to break through definatley but how will you do it without breaking some barriers that are part of what makes tribalism/family/kinship necessary. this man is sick he lives in the USA, but wants to practice his laws and is upset because she says no. perhaps he should not live where there is freedom of speech. this happens inthe uk, and people have gone to jail for killing relatives who have refuse to accept the marriages that ave be arranged for them.

is tribalism the only thing that stands out to you about this situation, how about the unnecessary sexist thought that if his family does not comply to his wishes he has the right to kill them. honestly, some africans shame me in their sexist nonsense and they of all men should know better because there is no harder working woman (no woman suffering more) than the african woman because her african man cares more about being a tyrant than a partner.

This replay seems to be a question right
If so then answer to it is NO!
When you take your time with the topic then you will realize that roots of cause was the tribalism that's why i took it as a title of the topic.

I shear some views about the men's dictating ship of sexist mainly Women's and children's are feeling the heat this is unprecedentedly!

The clue of this topic is that if we most as always wait till some something happens ?
