i JUST RETURN FROM THE GAMBIA AFTER A MONTH LONG VACATION. DURING MY ONE MONTH STAY ELECTRICITY DIDN'T GO OFF AND AM WONDERING IF THE PROBLEM IS TAKEN CARE OF. ONE THING THAT I NOTICED IS THAT THE BILLS ARE TOO HIGH. i PAID ABOUT 4000 DALASIS FOR A MONTH BILL FOR SOME RELATIVE AND THAT SEEMS HIGH FOR THE LOCALS.

Ylowe,
The same thing happened when I was there over Tobaski. There was no lights off , but there has been a 30% increase in the electricty bills. I doubt if the problem is totally solved.

Toubab1020,
Why not start making candles in the Gambia instead of importing?

Alhassan, the 30% increase is not only on electricity but also water supply too.

Well i said that an average family utility bill will be in the region of D2500.00 a month and now its proven that its D4000.00. No Directror, Deputy Permananet Secretary, or Commissioner in the Gambia earns D4000.00 a month.

You do the math and see people can afford to pay. 30% increase is too much for a one go raise. It shoild be gradual so that the customers could absord it.

candles are expensive, i bought solar lamps from argos, bought the batteries here, now two of the families i used to visit have lights, cheaper and safer than electricity, they are the envy of the their compound.
i plan to take ten more back for the people in upper nuimi, that electricity is far too hight.

The Gov't should provide cushion for the consumers. Gov't could do that by offering some tax concession to the Power company, the concession will cancel out a certain percentage off of bills. I am surprised that the 30% includes water. My initial understanding was the rise was for elect.
