We did not elect him as an AIDS healer. He was elected to serve as president period. His advantaged position is not suitable to double as an AIDS healer. Such a role interferes with policy formulation and implementation.
Lookt at it form that perspective. As an individual, the floor is open for him to practice.
I have worked in a research setting for sometime and a chain of custody of specimen is very important. The specimens received in Dakar may not be the specimens drawn from the patients in the Gambia. A lot of things can change hands along the route to Dakar.
I still give him the benefit of the doubt, but its not in tune with good protocols for his patients to be tested in Senegal given the implications of such blunders it may have in the diplomatic circles.
Be rest asured that the Senegalses Government is on top of every step of this process since their labs are being used. I cant see why MRC could not do the testing as they are competent to do this. Their doctors have a credibility to protect as they present papers in the scientific community around the world especially at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine known for the breakthroughs in disease cures.
Who is this Dr. Kane at the University of the Gambia. She does not command weight in the scientific world and to end speculations once and for all he should take the bull by its horn and hand over specimens to the World Health organisation. Again the chain of custody of specimens must be full proof.

The following is from FOROYAA Newspaper
THE “TREATMENT” OF AIDS PATIENTS BY THE PRESIDENT Dear Editor
Please help me clear my confused state of mind. The issue surrounding the treatment of Aids by the President of the Gambia is gaining popularity. The following points are my headache regarding the issue. 1. Is it prudent to declare a cure for AIDS without scientific people? 2. Is it medically ethical to expose the victims of the disease? 3. Is the success of the treatment measured by the CD4 count or by the individual’s status as zero-negative or zero-positive as par diagnose stage? 4. Is it correct that an AIDS patient can gain 7-10 kg of weight within a period of 10-14 days after being sick for over 10 years with one cardinal sign which is weight loss of up to 20% of body weight? And how correct is the rapid shooting up of the CD4 count on someone whose immune system has been compromised for a long period? 5. In malaria and other diseases like TB, one is declared cured when there is no parasite seen in the blood film sample or no AFB seen in the spectrum spear. Does the same apply in the cure of AIDS? I would have thought that our medical personnel would have given advice to the president or any other person involved in such a situation as to how to deal with a sensitive issue of this global nature, when the Reinhard Bunke scenario has taught us lessons. I do hope the same will not happen here. I would have expected the SoS and any other medical personnel involved to act responsibly by conducting the treatment as a trial with the involvement of line agencies and organisations like the W.H.O which is responsible for all global health issues, especially AIDS and terminal diseases. I am not a scientist but in the case of AIDS I would hope that there should be trials and curative treatment which makes it mandatory to act sensitively. These patients treated with those concoctions should be closely monitored and followed up for a long time. This should involve blood sample collection and analysis under ELISA at a reputable institution. It will be good for every Gambian to achieve treatment for AIDS, especially when it is discovered from the small Gambia but the organisation of the whole process to me seems manipulated. It should have taken a better form. Waiting for your response to the above mentioned request made. Thank you Yerro Serrekunda EDITOR: Mr. Yerro, Foroyaa will make effort to talk to the medical personnel, AIDS workers and the Secretary of State to shed light on these issues you have raised.

Yayah Jammeh has found a cure for HIV AIDS and Asthma! This is a great news my brothers and sisters, for Gambia's problems are finally over. First we should beable to employabout 15% of the unemployed youths in the country on farms to grow the herbs from which these medicines are made. Next we will have to convert Kanilai into a big industrial estate employing thousands of workers in the manufacturing of these drugs as there are millions of Asthma and AIDS patients world wide. To some of the oil rich countries, we will exchange the Asthma and AIDS drugs for petrol, kerosene and natural gas. Fuel shortages will be a thing of the past. We will also need contruction workers to build the factories. We will need drivers to transport the drugs.
We will have to extend the port and build a bigger airport and buy more ships and planes to transport these drugs out of the country. We will also have to tighten our borders to prevent the influx of AIDS and Asthma infected malnourished refugees from other African countries whose presidents are not intelligent enough to discover their own cure for aids.
We will build AIDS cure universities where our drugs should be further developed. Only Gambians should teach and attend these universities. We dont want any Nigerian, Ghanian or Sierra Leonean giong back to their countries and trying to be as technologically advanced as we are.
We should build a big statue of Jammeh and have huge festivities when he is given the nobel prize in medicine and chemistry. We should also have Jammeh arrange a big annual meeting of all the African witchdoctors to teach them how they can also use their skills to enrich their countries. The last thing I want to mention is that we will have to make all the roads from Fatoto To Banjul into 6 lane highways to accomodate the traffic have electric trains running between Kanilai and the sea port and airport. This should all take about three years considring the millions of dollars that we should soon be making. May Jammeh rule forever and ever until the end of the world. |

In the picture at the top, we see Dr. Jammeh busy at work in his Ministry of Health laboratory, mixing and mashing up the herbs.
Bottom picture he is giving away the mixture for someone to drink.....
Do you hear him saying " Tell me how you feel after you have tried this one " ?
Picture-reporting & news in the service of a personality cult that's growing - even if mired in controversy - about the president as healer and leader - and perhaps warner - of his community.
