I am aware of a pump about to break down in a village in the north bank, where there is only this drinking water pump, there is a Gambian named ARTHUR COX who has experience in maintainance of these pumps but the phone number for him is lost anyone know his phone number or if not know of anyone who will go and maintain this pump,it wants bearings on the pivot point I think.

I don't know as I havn't stripped the pump,it works but definatly wants 2 bearings, I am told that Arthur Cox knows where to get spares and how to fit things, I don't.but maybe in the region of D250 to D500,but I cannot tell you as I dont know where to buy spares or how to fit them.

Yes,but they were unable to assist stating that the charity that installed the pump was "no longer operating".

May be the villagers should contribute to something called user charges where each household head contributes some money into a fund for repairs.

Certainly, the biggest problems with many NGOs in Africa is that sustability is often not well factored in the programmes. Onece the NGO is gone, everything halts. Give a man a fish, he has a fish for a day. Teach him how to fish, he has fish for a lifetime.

Yes agreed about the NGO's,but this place is in the middle of nowhere where everyone is a farmer, mostly peanuts,so no spare money at all,if I could locate Arthur Cox then I am sure the matter could be resolved.
OR SOME OTHER SKILLED ARTISAN WHO KNOWS ABOUT PUMPS AND WHERE TO GET THE SPARE PARTS.
