SERGEANT BUBA JAMMEH'S FAMILY CRY FOR ACCESS By Modou Jonga
Reports have it that the prison authorities at the state Central Prison, commonly known as Mile II, have denied the family of Sergeant Buba Jammeh of the state Guard access to the latter. According to family sources, access to Sergeant Jammeh was curtailed by the prison authorities since when he was transferred from his detention cell at the NIA headquarters to Mile II in November of last year.
Sergeant Jammeh who was arrested shortly after the Freedom Newspaper saga has been in detention for over six months now. The same family source also told this reporter that Sergeant Jammeh was never arraigned before any court of law nor is he informed of the reason(s) for arrest and subsequent detention contrary to the requirements of the constitution and the law. The family, said the source, is thus shocked and deprived by the long detention of their bread winner.
Family members, however, expressed doubt about Sergeant Jammeh being an informant of the said online Newspaper. Sergeant Jammeh was enlisted in the security force in 1989 as a "Gendarme".
