That was the year that was. What's in the cards for 2007? Some of it is here:

www.statehouse.gm/2006budget/index.htm

President Yahya Jammeh's top priority for 2006 was the eradication of the perennial problem that bedevils most of Africans and he's set his sights on the eradication of that problem :poverty in the Gambia.

I'm sure that more than 67.3 % of us ( and that includes you and me) support that movement for the betterment of the lives of all the Gambian people.

OK Kramaba, so everything was oiky-doiky with Jawara ( which ryhmes with Karamba) and you will of course in due course of time be making helpful suggestions as to how this eradication of evil is to be brought about.

I suppose that you would say that it goes hand in hand with waging a war on ignorance and disease - that sickness of the heart that the Quran talks about.

Obviously Dr. Jammeh is not feeding the flesh of Gambians to crocodiles at the Kanlai pool as I was earlier on misinformed but should he ever be guilty of such unislamic behaviour then obviously he would be in need of corrective and disciplinary measures from the people of the Gambia, the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the Africa Union, the OIC, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and he would be in need of the special attention of a certified Sangoma from South Africa.

I also wish president Jammeh and all my brothers and sisters, the People of the Gambia truly well - success for 2007. It’s no easy task that the president and the people of the Gambia face. It is much easier to find fault or criticize. More difficult to implement even helpful suggestions which could be solutions. I do not doubt that even the most vociferous critics are serious, sincere, and Devil's dictionary definitions aside, well intentioned PATRIOTS.

President Yayha Jammeh’s NEW YEAR’s Message for 2007

In the reality of the Gambia acting as a sovereign nation we find a lot of truth. But I will address that under the proper heading and comment on the exact words that were quoted in that negative article on Gambia’s incontestable right to sovereignty and to not being a satellite state - although should the Gambia come under the wings of e.g. Iran and Venezuela and Taiwan who has a non-Chinese USA as other main best friend for the time being, then sovereignty will remain Gambian but non-alignment can be severely compromised and with dependence, freedom to manoeuvre can be restricted.

A Sierra Leonean friend usually laughs, Ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaa he he he heeeeeeeeeee he he ha ha he he he hehehe heeeeeeeeeeee !! ” and I feel like laughing like him from the gut level when Iran says that they are NOT involved in IRAQ!!!!! That is so absurd it is even beyond being insincere or passing off as Taqqiya - it is frontal laughter and saying “What are you going to do about it?” which actually means, “And what can you do about it?” Which Iran, being Iran can say. But at no time ( I hope) will the Gambia become a safe haven for some Iranain or al-Qaeda type Jihadists – should things escalate to a point when in the global hunt for terrorists George Bush decides to kick ess wherever he finds them. The FBI is already stationed in West Africa with supporting agencies.

Just the other day a ship from Venezuela with a record cargo of Cocaine was detained at Göteborg, a Swedish harbour. The transit point of Sierra Leone diamonds is also well known. As are other matters. No one should knowingly allow themselves to be used. Because some eyes see and are not seen or even known.

Just see what happened to that little enclave in Somalia in which it was alleged that some al-Qaedists were holed up. Just imagine if they were holed up in Kanilai - then they could have been blown up along with some of the crocodlies beside them too, accompanied by plenty of what is usually called collateral damage to surrounding property - unless those missiles are laser-guided and what's done cannot easily be undone. All that will of course normally be preceded by an adequate number of warnings and much plaintive reportings of suspicious activities.

As I see it the best course of action for a little country like Sierra Leone or the Gambia is international partnership and cooperation - not strident & radical Islamist policy from strident & aggressive ideology. It’s good for us all Gambian people too, to get help from everywhere and wherever we can get it with our heads up and still with dignity and humility - we can and not to go out of our way to be seen to be aligning with the perceived non-co-operators of the USA and other good friends. President Jammeh sending some his men to Darfur is a very admirable gesture.

By other good friends I also mean e.g.

( In that picture in the middle is Soulay Daramy my best Sierra Leone friend in Sweden, before I went to Nigeria - when I got back he had got married and was no longer a chronic bachelor. My wife thinks that his Regina should one day be Salone's First Lady....... Soulay loves Congo Music. He does not drink or smoke. He is the Chief of Protocol in the president's office and an honourable Mandinka brother man.)
