Emman, i was happy that you dared put Mr Sankanu's article on Bantaba, and i agreed to your first reactions as i told you.
But now i think you are provoking and i can tell you that your last posting will not do anything to come to the 'mature debate' that you were hoping for. You are giving Santanfara and Madiba just what they were out to get: proof that you are, or worse - that we Europeans are all, disrespectful of their culture and of their religion.
So, now it's time for me to get out of this 'debate'. The last thing i would like to say in answer to Santanfara's posting is, that there are good people everywhere (irrespective of religion, race, colour)and that there are a lot of bad people around as well (irrespective of religion, race, colour). I have never had the intention to be disrespectful, but i still think it was Mr Sankanu's objective to make his readers face some serious sex/prostitution-related problems honestly and with an open mind. |

The Europeans are continously blamed for the world's problems. But it has been a long time since most of these former colinies gained their independece.

america and most european countries gain most of there wealth on things associated with oil, weapon manufacturing,drugs,interest and inbalance terms of trade .if you are proud of that ,then we will not arque.
europe have a lot of good people and good instittution that we can emulate from but some things are better our way. just because mr sankanu appeal to your way of thinking doesn't mean he is right.some of his arquement are fine but what i said was the mixing of unrelated issues is wrong. if you think you are more mature good luck to you.but please stop insulting africans .you are dealing with me.
for centuries we have been doing our best to copy every thing western ,but it did not take us any were. the indian and chinise are doing things there way that is why they are moving forward. |

Emman, now you are showing you true colours. Its becos of sell-outs like Babucarr Sankanu that's retarding us. Tourism is mutual, Europeans and African or other destinations. We PREFER TO HAVE OUR DIGNITY IN POVERTY RATHER AFFLUENCE IN BONDAGE/SLAVERY.

Thanks for the intervention. babucarr's article could have been a good subject for a debate if it was devoid of bias and a hidden agenda. The issues contained in the article were incoherent, it was upside down because the motive was not SINCERE. Unless babucarr puts the article in the right perspective and his disciples learn to be honest I will not change my stance on this issue.
The issue is about the arrest of prostitutes in the Gambia, why co-opt rape cases in africa, Islam and sex, FGM, migration to europe by sea or wahtever means, terrorism by Arabs speakers on the African continent. To me most of these issues have no relevance to the issue at hand . Bubacarr's intentions are only best known to himself.
Prostitution is problem which does not only affect theGambia and africans nor does is affect only the muslims. I would have expected a reputable journalist not a join-a-list, by giving a broad perspective to the issue but not single out a single group of people. It should have come out with statistics and also relevant references to show that it was a well researched topic. You can't just wake up and start blah blahing about things that you are ignorant of. What has Migration to Europe got to do with prosptitution in The Gambia? What has that got to do with terrorism? What has that got to do with Female Genital Mutilation(FGM)? If not a concotion of lies intended to smear the image of africans and Islam. |

Dear Mr. Sankanu, wherever you minght be, I would like to appologies for forwarding your commentary on prostitution to the BANTABA without your intial approval.
Prostitution is a worldwide problem affecting all countries and societies. Unlike some of your country people, you have been brave nad ecourageous enough to spill the beans and speak your mind.
I have indireclty subjected yo uto perosjal insults buy osme semi-literta poople who were not brave enough to challenge your remkars POINT-FOR-POINT but only chose to be selective.
The arrest of prosititutes is a tip of the ice-berg and dealing with it requires INDEPT social review as you have suggested.
I pray that Your President Dr. Yahya Jammeh adopts your proposal like micor-credit schemes for victimes of prostituion. As you rightly noted most of the victimes of prositution are inncoent victimsa of poverty and greed
Once more, forgive me for the insults you indrectly received from some coward list-members.

With Germany legalising prostitution and the lucrative trade in human traffficking booming it seems to me like Emman is trying to advocate that Africans should become whores for a piece of bling. Tighter immigration control on perverts to the smiling coast would keep these pimps in their rightful places or in prison where they belong.

Tighter immigration control would be a deterrent, but how does one know who is a 'pervert' - they come in many guises, teachers, ngos,charity workers etc and of course as tourists. So unless they are called Mr Glitter, or Immigration has a list of known sex offenders, how can one tell?
