No other musician in the world South or North of the Sahara has expressed the post-colonial consciousness of Africa as has this Yoruba brother. Fela, leader of a Nigerian Political Party called Movement of The People He has not been replaced, cannot be displaced and we all miss him terribly
like we miss Bob Marley, Franco Luambo Makiadi, Pepe Kalle, Jimi Hendrix, Dr. Nico, Marvin Gaye, Billie Holliday, John Coltrane, Clifford Brown, Art Blakey, Art Tatum, Miles, the list is long, like the rest of the road that is just ahead

John Chernoff (one of our regular Scrabble companions in Ghana ) has written comprehensively about our one and only Fela Anikulapo Kuti :

No, excuse me by the way. His wives are not all that comes to my mind... but also their supercool make up!
But seriously, although his songs are veeeery long in mY opInIon, Fela was cool and heīs got a lot of credit among many of todays artists. He was brave, openly critisizing Nigerias politics and dictatorships and he was a human rights activist. Much respect for that!
