LAMIN WAA JUWARA, NADD EXECUTIVE MEMBER SAY PRESIDENT JAMMEH IS THE CLEAR WINNER Written by EBRIMA BARRY (EDITOR-IN-CHIEF) Saturday, 30 September 2006
Mr. Lamin Waa Juwara former Niamina Member of Parliament and Divisional Commissioner under the PPP Administration and current Executive Member of opposition party NADD has said that President Yahya Jammeh is the outright winner of last weeks presidential elections in The Gambia. Mr. Juwara made this pronouncement earlier today when he spoke to Malick Alaba Jones in an exclusive interview on Gambia Radio and Television Services.
Juwara also praised the election process in The Gambia by saying tremendous improvements have been made. Juwara lambasted claims by the opposition that the elections were unfair. He said if anybody is to be blamed it is the opposition because they could not be united for a common goal. He acknowledged that they did not receive any reports for any irregularity on Election Day. On the whole, he hailed the process as being totally improved compared to previous years. The "Lion" as he is known in Gambian political cycles also said President Jammeh was the President for all Gambians and not just for the APRC. He posited that the country has to move on and the elections need to be behind us. What Lamin Waa-Juwara did today is what any patriotic Gambian who calls himself a genuine politician who loves The Gambia should do. There is no one politician who has been more critical of this Government than Lamin Waa Juwara and for him to come out and put his politics behind him and speak the truth, speaks volumes of him and indeed demonstrates his patriotism to his country unlike his opposite number who is still crying over spilled milk. Juwara and NADD may differ from the APRC as far as ideology is concerned and that is normal, today they showed the whole world that Gambia comes first and egos come last. Our Political commentator said NADD took the high road and this he said could be very beneficial to them in the upcoming National Assembly Elections. He went on to say that it is not a common practice in Africa for political parties to come forward and concede noting that most always want to blame their defeat on voting irregularities and what not. He said NADD demonstrated political maturity because they said they were going to study the process and come back to the people and it appears he said, "WAA Juwara" has done that today and has done justice to this country."
Apparently Waa Juwara's opposite number in the other party is still holding on to his previous stance that the process was not fair and even went to the extent of accusing an honourable man in IEC Chairman, Alhagi Mustapha Carayol of wrong doing. A legal practitioner of his repute should have known there is a clause in the law of the land called, Slander and spreading false and malicious information and he may have to dance to this tune if Mr. Carayol so chooses to seek redress in the Judicial process.Waa Juwara has not made calls for the latter to resign, but most Gambian political observers acknowledged that it is time for him to resign from politics and go back to what he does best, LAWYER-ING.

Congratulations Lamin Wa Juwara. I believe that speaks volumes and shows your maturity in Gambian politics now. Coming out clean and with clear conscience is the way forward post-election on this dramatic elections where the opposition blew all their chances away! We raised all these ALARMS AND DISSAPOINTMENTS but felt on deaf ears and blinfolded eyes and minds. Their BLUNDERS costs them TSUNAMI disaster when the results of the elections were released and can't recover from it ANYMORE with all the allegations!
It is high time for Darboe, Sedia, Landing Jallow Sonko, O.J and Waa to even consider retiring from politics as now new breed of politicians would hopefully emerge. In the interest of national unity Jammeh should consider them for Ministarial or Ambassador positions if they are willing to serve as patriots In the Service of the Nation and seeing themselves as public servants and not Jammeh's servants. On the otherhand we need new brands and good ideology rather than waste our time with these crude politicians, power hungry and weak leaders. As far I am concern I am taking this opportunity to renounce and dis-associate myself from all opposition parties and not even a sympathiser or moral supporter to STGDP. Jammeh is given a clear victory for another five year mandate within certain limitations of our democracy. He deserve our due respect to be seen as the Head of State and our righful President. ONE MUST LEAD AND OTHERS TO FOLLOW!
The political lanscape has changed and these veterans with political maturity and vast experience in Gambian politics has conceded for e,g Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara and Lamin Waa Jawara. I endored Jawara's prayers to grant Jammeh the wisdom and courage to continue the good work for the BETTER GAMBIA AND AFRICAN DREAM WE WANT!
God bless the Gambia! PEACE! |

Kobo,
I agree with their resignations. Gambians need to move on.
I am careful not to congratulate someone like Jammeh, even though i see that he is mandated by the electorate for another five years. As a result of the atrocities registered in our country since 94, i still hold this ruling administration accountable. What i expect is a reconciliation program, but that would mean Jammeh stepping down or at least making sure justice takes its course in all the hanging cases.
I expect that all the closed radios and newspapers be back to operations
I expect that they will address Deyda and Koro's issue
I expect that the 14 students that died in april,00 will also be addressed.
I expect that they tell us about Duta Kamaso.
I expect that they tell us about all the missing military officers.
I expect that other fired civil servants be reinstated-like Bora mboge, etc..
To me, this is reconciliation. And Gambians need to move on now.
Sadam before removal was voted 99% by his country's electorate. |

Dalton we all can dream but after dreaming we have to face reality. Jammeh is not going to step down now it seems as you are swimming against the tide. Gambians have voted Jammeh back into power for the next five years, despite everything you have mentioned. They weighed up the positives against the negatives and decided to entrust their votes in the APRC government for the next five years. Dalton it is surely your right to ask for a public inquiry into the above matters to get to the bottom of these issues if you so wish. But to suggest Jammeh stepsdown anytime now is a joke, and if you truly believe your statement alas Gainako you are delusional. Its time to accept defeat and move ahead with a new strategy.
Peace

Omega,
How sure are you that they weighed things ? Negative or positive-
I am honestly ready to move on, but with regards to reconciliation, the above is where it should start. Jammeh stepping down would be part of a reconciliation process, but i know he won't do that, just because he is so clinged onto power. I am careful not to congratulate one like Jammeh, if you really understand where i am coming from. |

| Dalton what are you talking about re-instating the people fired. Are you trying to say that without them no one is capable to man those positions. Jammeh is here to stay and no to old PAs. It would be very prudent if can come back to Gambia and prosecute the state of the above listed allegations. These were some of the points I have been emphasizing ie no false accusation. Gambians are willing to hear from you of any information that lead to the above causes. Take an example from the place you live ie USA. USA have been detaining tones of people in middle East and no charges been brought against them for more than three years. Is that democracy? Again ZERO TORELANCE ON FALSE ALLEGATIONS. You will surely dance to your statements. |

Dalton 1 my position is calling on re-orientaion, reforms and builging our democratic structures. History will address some of your concerns but you cannot be enemy of the state forever under present circumstances for PEACE AND PROGRESS. Live the disgruntled politicians and crude style of politics as thats history in Gambian politics. There are august bodies to addsress ABUSE AND HUMAN RIGHTS CRIMES as virtually all of them are LEGAL ISSUES and involve CLAIMANT VS DEFENDANT.
We pay tribute to the victims and console their families with prayers to grant them the comfort in a justice sytem for astrocities alleged to have been committed in the PAST!
Perhaps TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION might help for NATIONAL UNITY!
God bless the Gambia! PEACE! |

Ebra & Kobo,
I understand ur opinions. I am not trying to be an enermy of the state. no! no! But a reconciliation program will even go further to have the ff. -farmers paid. -employment for the youths -also, for them to invite our intellectuals to go home and help them develop our nation. -All Gambians outside or within the country must have free movement, in and out, without fear of reprisals.
I am honestly ready to promote any development plan, but candidly speaking, it is hard for me to congratulate the man, because i cannot pridict what the five years will look like. Already, his first statements are seen to be arrogant, where he insulted the whole world, including himself. |

STEP 1 is based on THE VERDICT and respect for the peoples mandate!
STEP 2 TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION and promotion of NATIONAL UNITY!
STEP 3 Re-orientation and reforms!
STEP 4 Consider certain CONDITIONS and enabling environment for PEACE, PROGRESS AND STABILITY! Some of concerns can be addressed under STEP 4.
In my opinion it is important to establish a FEASIBLE program to serve various stakeholders especially CITIZENS BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS, CITIZENS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AND REMEDIES AVAILABLE THROUGH A JUDICIOUS JUSTICE SYTEM UNDER AN IDEAL FAIR DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM!
GOD BLESS THE GAMBIA! |

Ebra I believe all PETITIONS AGAINST ANY GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY must be SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED by BOTH THE LEADER, LEGISLATURE AND EXECUTIVE OR ALL ARMS OF GOVERNMENT entrusted with the responsibilityto RUN THE COUNTRY IN THE INTERESTS OF THE NATION AND ITS CITIZENS!
The EXPRESSIONS"IN THE INTERESTS OF THE NATION AND ITS CITIZENS" is where POLITICS and THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF THE GAMBIA conflicts! RECONCILING and BRIDGING THE GAPS that conflicts rests (DUTY BOUND) with THOSE CHARGED WITH STEWARDSHIP AND GOVERNING THE COUNTRY!
Any mis-direction of the running of the country cause by CORRUPTION and OTHER ABUSES OF AUTHORITY results to INSTABILITY!
GOD BLESS THE GAMBIA! |

| The hope of every Gambian is to be President for life. No wonder in a tiny hamlet like Gambia, you can have, APRC, PDOIS, UDP, NRP, NDAM, GPDP all trying to vy for an electoral registr of 600,000 voters. Its a joke. People hardly resign unless they are "pushed". |

The Point Newspaper Waa Juwara Expresses Dissatisfaction with Voter Turn-out under http://www.thepoint.gm/headlines1253.htm
Is it a stale news of comments made by Waa at the initial declaration of election results? What are the effects of his comments? |
