NADD CORDINATOR CLARIFIES: "NADD is intact & people are galvanized"

By Yero Jallow (Dalton)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

August 15, 2005
The coordinator of NADD Hon. Halifa Sallah in a phone conversation on Saturday the 13th of august 2005 said NADD is in full gears, intact and Gambians are galvanized and all supporting NADD. Halifa, who was with Hamat Bah and other strong holds at a campaign rally in Saloum said it was truly amazing and encouraging to see all the turn out of people who came to demonstrate their anger over comments made by the he-goat dictator Jammeh making a vow to take Hamat's and Halifa's seats. In a speech repetition, he said "nothing angered Gambians more than the presidents vow to take my seat and that of Hamat because we are outspoken in the parliament . So far, that's what this whole gathering of people are telling us in Saloum".

Halifa reiterated that UDP and Darboe are all in full NADD gears, a question that was repeated to him three times. Halifa also stated that the APRC is struggling to find candidates for Jarra and Serekunda and until the day he was talking to us, he knows that the power of the people will speak again. He described this bi-election as a test on the side of NADD and went on to philosophize that this is the beginning of the end of a tyrannical Jammeh Gov't and all parties have a lot to gain since the hearts and minds of the electorate are all consistent.

In another development, Halifa said the NADD committee is fully active and members are all cooperative and moving to the next step of the agenda where as individual party members will decide whether to stay NADD or go back to their individual parties because of a supreme court's ruling and interpretation of the constitution. Having thrown the said motion to the committee and the entire electorate, it is certain that Gambians are totally cemented and fully galvanized to have NADD lead them in this coming 2006 Presidential elections. However, Halifa was quick to add that strict rules and 5 years term limits will be for the flag bearer upon success and that's an entire NADD representation Leader, and upon completion of this term have to show neutrality without joining or supporting any political party. "A NADD president will fully operate under a NADD etiquette", he lamented.

In a talk-tone on Dictator Taya's refuge in the Gambia, he said Taya is out of luck now and his comments or declaration over the media in the Arab countries that he was working on returning doesn't have any base. He added the two, referring to Jammeh and Taya have been close and they have a lot of things in common. According to Halifa, this coup in Mauritania was not only by the army but the supporters of Taya's party, which made it the great lesson to learn from and even Mauritanians in the Gambia demonstrated in the streets and expressed happiness over Taya's removal . "The A.U have recognised them now since the army was quick to have a prime minister and a civilian cabinet and even America have started to recognise them", he added.

In another reminder of one of his most critical writings where he mentioned "avenge" which scared a lot of Gambians, he said it was done to reflect the feelings of the people, a way of reflecting the minds of the people and to dismiss any attachment to having personal fear. As for the able NADD coordinator, Jammeh committed a "political suicide" by interfering with the national assembly and the IEC which shows either ignorance of the law or lacken in respect for the law.

Halifa questioned if NADD will send Jammeh to Kanilai in 2006, he said " i don't know if Jammeh will be comfortable living there but he will leave".

Asked to give Gambians in the Diaspora his last words, a vibrant Halifa full of confidence, hope and laughter said "It is true that the power of the people is talking . We need a society that is fully conscious and totally aware of their power as citizens. It is certain that Gambians are getting totally dissatisfied over scare-tactics and intimidation, that's why we need a leader who will operate with law and not might . Tyranny can only survive on a society with unenlightened people. We will weaken and destroy Jammeh's machinery of harming or intimidating the people. Jammeh and the entire APRC are totally insecure and uncomfortable with the ongoing trend of NADD. It is high time that people of the Diaspora organise themselves, remain conscious and stop exaggerating Jammeh's strength".

SPECIAL NOTE: I am thankful and grateful to the facilitators of this talk with Halifa namely Christina Sukuna, Cherno Bah, Soul Njie and other attendees like Majar Sanyang, Lamin Dibba, and Tamsir Darboe. Dalton, Thank you for posting Waa Juwara's phone number. I heard he is fond of insulting community leaders. This will give chance to anybody whose parent becomes a victim of this charade to pick up the phone to Juwara and revenge.

Nobody's father is better than anybody's fathers.

Thank you and well done.

I do not oppose unity but I oppose dumb union.
