FAMILY, GPU UPSET OVER MISSING REPORTER
By Bubacarr K. Sowe

The Gambia Press Union (GPU) and the family of the missing Daily Observer reporter Chief Ebrima Manneh have expressed desperation over his mysterious disappearance since the 6th of July, 2006.

Madi Ceesay, President of GPU told Foroyaa that it is a pity that Manneh has disappeared and it is now taking too long to locate his whereabout. "We don't know where he is kept or what is happening to him; whether Manneh is alive or dead; we do not have an idea. It is worrying as far as The Gambia Press Union is concerned. It is disturbing and painting a bad picture of the image of the media status in this country," Mr. Ceesay said.

He indicated that all stakeholders must do their work efficiently to detect where he is and whether he is alive or not.
The father of the missing reporter, Sarjo Manneh, has said that they are shocked wit, and surprised at, the mysterious disappearance of his son. The father said that he had been to the Daily Observer in search of his son but he was simply asked to wait for three days, after which there was no positive development. Superintendent Aziz Bojang Spokesperson of The Gambia Police Forces has said that they do not have the legal mandate to enquire into anybody's life. "The parents of Chief Manneh should lodge their complaint with his employers. My understanding is that he reported for work and never returned home. So if there is going to be any enquiry it should start from his employers," Superintendent Bojang told Foroyaa.
