Kobo, I am Honestly proud of you.
Please stay as time permits you. We are your students here. When you made the announcement, it killed the spirit of contributors, especially me. I tell you people are reading this forum from all places.
Don't forget to send us your opinion or any news tips, as you contribute here. Also, if we are are erring, it is "guardianship" as a motto, to be guided and to guide.
Though a busy time for me, and might limit interaction here, but that my respect for this forum , and its contributors will ever remain. Most of those i met in the media fraternity, i met here. Most of what i learnt, here. I started contribution in this forum, if not for opinion pieces i've written while a student in the Gambia.Though took some college classes on writing, but that we owe to this forum what is due back to it.
Gainako is a sister to this forum.
God bless you !!

Am not a political activist but compelled by circumstances to stand for the NATION'S PRIDE and as an AMBASSADOR to counter any hypocrite, mediocre or laizzare faire attitudes, mis-information and disorientations within our complex political issues and enslavement subjected to us by our authorities.
I wish to acknowledge these facts that; there is massive impressive infrastructures and viable development projects at the expense of rampant corruption (by a clique), many astrocities, state terror and crimes, bad governance, poverty and high cost of living (inflation), lack of accountability, enforcement of law and order and injustices.
Public accountability, transparancy and democracy was supposed to be assessed, tried and tested to see how average Gambians have awaken to their plights under dictatorship and APRC rule for a radical change in forthcoming elections. However am not optimistics that it shall be as politics at home is all about blackmail and favouritism. What a mess and shame? |

Hey Kobo, That was a fast exit and re-entry you pulled there. You had folks all misty eyed and stuff. Next time don't bother with that announcement thingy. Just take your sabbatical or whatever and come back when you wish. That is just my opinion. Everyone is expendable on this forum so don't let it get to your head...lol.
On a serious note. You wrote: However am not optimistics that it shall be as politics at home is all about blackmail and favouritism. What a mess and shame?
Who is blackmailing who? Enquiring minds will like to know. On your second point about favoritism...what do you think electoral politics is all about? People favor one candidate over another and vote accordingly. What say ye? You got a problem with that? |

Thanks Bronx for your good thoughts and advices. I do appreciate them very much and was a little bit a wrong approach with that decision abruptly taken. Thats why Bantaba is here to stay as an viable information centre and educational forum with its current calibre of members. I took time to sort out my head and get re-vitalised and inspiration from contributions of the likes of Dalton1, Biraago and Cornelius amongst others during my absence. Thanks to every one sharing in Bantaba on different issues and subjects under varied topics.
Now Bronx, to substanstantiate about my observations on Gambian politicking and !blackmail'. In simple terms 1blackmail! is what am bargaining and dictating in this market is 'barter trade'; or in other words 'you give me this I give you that'. Therefore party manifestos, national programs and visions are sidelined and private, scrupulous and other conditional deals tabled or agreed upon.
Please refer for typical scenarios and art of 'blackmail' analysing certain remarks and commentaries under these links:
http://allafrica.com/stories/200609080811.html http://allafrica.com/stories/200609130070.html http://allafrica.com/stories/200609040081.html
Have been out of touch but came across a lot of aricles about bribery and selling of voter cards and an article for UDP/NRP Alliance promising Henry Gomez Senior Ministerial position for GPDP joining. The favouritism scenario in your thoughts is different from these phenomenae 'institutionalised corruption of public servants to be hired in priviledged positions to assist and promote Jammeh's efforts and APRC' and 'tribalism phobia' to add or make up THE NUMBERS. Bronx just pick few sentences from above links and ask yourself where blackmail and favouritism best fits? More anon!

I wouldn't call their remarks BLACKMAIL. They are more of a threat than anything else. I am not saying threatening the electorate is right in any shape or form. It is abhorent to me personally. I am not trying to play semantics here because I genuinely believed that their is a difference between BLACKMAIL and a THREAT. The later is what I believed they engaged in.
With regards to Henry Gomez been offered a position if the ARC wins, I don't see anything wrong with that. It is the way alliances work. If NADD should win, don't you think WAA will be offered a senior position in that government. Is it wrong to appoint competent allies to positions? Not by any stretch. That is what constitutes politics and governance.

Lets shift the politics from this topic before it dominates the blessings, naming ceremony and christening rituals or not outweigh the benefits, puropse and viability of launching Gainako website within the tenets of objectivity, fair and balanced or one of those advanced freedom of expression fora. The Proprietor has vast wealth of experience, can live up to expectations and can keep pace with its momentum as it matures on sound footings or grow from strength to strength.
Best wishes! What about the Kola nuts? |

Congratulation to brother Dalton1 and the Gainako staff for finally making Gainako a reality. I am trilled to read about Gainako joining the much urgent need to join the struggle to free our people from lack of information fatigue. It is a step in the right direction and you will make an enormous impact on the lives of your readership.
This is absolutely Phenomenal and will contribute a great deal to the political and social debates in enlightening our people.
On a personal note; Though I was a regular reader daily, I took a short break from the forum to put into perspective and think deeply the historical consequences of the opposition breakup and the squander of a one in a life time opportunity for our people.
I have taken a deep breath, learned a lot and will continue to draw lessons from the events and debates leading to election day to prepare better for the future challenges to free our people from political entrapment. I do appreciate the views of every contributor to this forum. I will say tombs up to all readers and contributors. Peace |

Its a give and take as am always learning a lot from other members. Think the ethics, art or style of writing is all about effective communications to minimise misuderstandings, debate well and get vital messages accross with an element of flexibility to appreciate diverse opinions.
Gainako have you considered integrity and security issues of your website to be in place and felt safe to guarantee proper safeguards against intruders to access confidential information and secure safety of clients and members, before launching? |

Thanks Bronx, am back for a much more indebt intellectual debate to move our country forward after all the politics that may have taken us no where but back several steps from where we started.
My ultmost interest is to visualize what kind of a country we want Gambia to be a decade from now? What responsibilities do we collectively have as citizens to change not only the political landscape in our country, but the way majority of our people see and think of the role of government and their individual roles as civil servants, service personnel, private citizens etc...
How can we Gambians especially those of us in the diaspora use our human and economic resources to contribute towards socio-economic development in our country independent of Government? Do we know how much economic power we have in our hands as working men and women in the diaspora, and how can we put that into work to initiate CITIZEN initiative projects to help our much deserving people?
I have a feeling and know for sure that we can do much more than sitting behind keyboards and debating merits and weaknesses of others. Looking beyond politics, together we have a national interest, common goal and collective responsibility in facing the challenges in our country. Politics as I said before, is what divides us, Gambia is what naturally unite us and we must stand together in one way or the other to lay down the foundation of good governance and responsible citizenship among ourselves. I intend to dwell deeper into such issues and I hope others will join me as well in seriously critiqueing ourselves. |

"Brother Dalton, our credibility matters a lot in the fight for justice. We must embrace our opponents and seek to win their conscience even during heated debates. We don't hate the players, we hate the game and the game cannot change itself. There is no doubt in my mind that you could set up an incredible paper that not only your supporters agree with but also one that will be embraced by the very people who disagree with you. This is about Gambia and not I, you, or Yahya. We can all agree to disagree, but silence means acceptance of what is imposed on us."
Demba.
It is your advice that i evaluated.
Kobo, i tell you- the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Gainako will unfold it strategy of activism.
Every one is welcome, because it belongs to all positive minded people. We will engage a lot of people. Allah willing !!! |

Sir Kobo, After we learnt our lesson from what happened to freedom, we are indebted to every one to makesure the site is secure. Part of why we don't have little entries like guest sign ins, etc, etc..The statement above on our press release is both to aguarantee to security, and a warning that intruders need to stay off the site.
Thanks |
