OJ Clarifies By Abdoulie G. Gibba
Omar Amadou Jallow (alias O J), has given a vivid picture of why he was absent during the nomination of Halifa Sallah as the presidential candidate for the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD).
Jallow’s statement came on the heels of speculation that he has abandoned NADD. He said he was stricken by illness and was hospitalized. Jallow pointed out that he still supports Halifa Sallah as the candidate of NADD. OJ made these statements on Friday 1st September at his residence in Pipeline during an interview with this reporter. OJ indicated that NADD is a unifying factor and has the solution to the ills created by the APRC during its twelve years of misrule. He pointed out that in the Memorandum of Understanding establishing NADD which he is a signatory, it is stipulated that NADD would put in place constitutional and legal instruments as well as democratic institutions and practices covering all areas of state administration and management so as to put an end to self perpetuating rule which is the characteristic of the APRC rule. OJ said NADD is committed to create an economic environment that will ensure the development of the productive base of the economy and maximize economic growth, employment and general welfare of the youth and women.
This OJ said, is necessary to put an end to the suffering of the Gambian people. He asserted that the interview Halifa granted to the journalists after the nomination showed the supremacy of the NADD candidate over the two candidates. OJ pointed out that the interview showed that Halifa Sallah possesses all the qualities of the type of leader the Gambia needs under these circumstances. He finally called on all Gambians at home and abroad regardless of tribe, religion, political affiliation or place of origin to give their total support to Halifa Sallah the NADD presidential candidate.

The lies of Mr Big Mouth In an interview with Foroyaa OJ the big mouth, asserted that the interview Halifa granted to the journalists after the nomination showed the supremacy of the NADD candidate over the two candidates. I would like to be told how that Insulate Halifa have earn supriority in this interview over the others. Below I produce the interviews
NADD’s Presidential Candidate Halifa Sallah, topped the list of aspirants at the IEC headquarters, flanked by Lamin Waa Juwara, leader of National Democratic Action Movement (NDAM) and Executive Member of NADD, Hon Sidia Jatta, Executive Member of NADD and NAM for Wulli West, Landing Jallow-Sonko, Chairman of NADD, as well as other senior officials of the opposition alliance.
Shortly after the completion of his nomination process, Hon Sallah, expressed delight at their nationwide tour, saying nobody has condemned us throughout that cause. “NADD is accepted nationally and internationally,” he emphasised.
About any possible alliance with NRP/UDP coalition, Mr Sallah disclosed that NADD has written to them, suggesting for reunion of the two alliances, since they had objected to the five-year term limit for the NADD-led presidency. He then elaborated: “We said let us have a pool of candidates, and allow elders to select one of the candidates. That person will stay for three, or five years and go back for elections. We also suggested to them to establish a prime ministership system, where NADD will be ready to go after five years. We will then retain the presidency, while they retain the prime ministership, since they want to continue after the five years. But we have not heard from them”.
The Serrekunda Central Parliamentarian indicated that the NADD has decided to have five year transition, where “we will proof to Gambian people that The Gambia must have a new democratic foundation. We will make sure that civil servants are secured. We will as well, engage in constitutional, legal and administrative reforms”.
He added that laws that restrict freedom of expression will be decriminalised, and then expressed confidence to sweep the polls in the September 22nd elections.
APRC
President Yahya Jammeh, Candidate for the APRC party, was accompanied by his spouse, Madam Zineb Jammeh, APRC executive members, and thousands of jubilant supporters, who crowded around the vicinity of IEC building on Kairaba Avenue.
In an interview with newsmen, shortly after his nomination, President Jammeh vowed to “merciless defeat” the contesting opposition parties, even if there exist a multiples of alliances. “I am for the Gambian people, and I am not speculating. Come September 23rd, I will invite all and sundry to the biggest victory celebrations that’s never happened in Africa, by the grace of Allah. Even if, there are one hundred alliances, I do not care. What I am interested in, is the will of the Gambian people and I have no doubt that Gambians will proof the alliances wrong. I am not comparable to any of them,” he charged.
He informed newsmen about his mammoth achievements in the past 12 years, saying “I have facelifted the country in all avenues. Gambian people will forever rally behind me, because of my achievements”.
UDP
Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, Candidate for the UDP, was accompanied to IEC by the Hamat Bah, leader of National Reconciliation Party and former NAM for Upper Saloum, senior officials of both parties, and thousands of supporters, who thronged the streets with mixture of cultural drums and jubilation.
Shortly after his nomination, Mr Darboe expressed his delight at the outcome of the process, saying “it’s hitch-free”. He assured that the UDP will never spark problem in the country. “I am asking every Gambian to comport himself peacefully, because one of the greatest assets we have in this country is our peace and tranquillity,” he said. He expressed hope to win this year’s Presidential election.
He urged Gambians to reject material inducement and remain resolute against any intimidation in the exercise of their civic duty to decide on the September 22nd elections. He questioned the independence of public institutions, saying this is what the UDP-led government will fight against.
He then disclosed plans to establish Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme and then elaborated: “We will make sure that the enormous resources that the commercial banks utilise in purchasing bills, are channelled into the productive sector of the economy, through which the youth will get employed.”
About possible reunion with the NADD, Mr Darboe said the UDP/NRP coalition did not rule out any alliance, with any political party. He maintained that anything is possible, saying politics is dynamic.
