Three cowboys went into a hotel and asked for a room. The clerk said they had only one room left and it would $30.00. So each man handed over $10.00 a piece for a total of $30.00.
When they went upstairs, the clerk realized he overcharged them because it was not a $30.00 room, it was only a $25.00 room. The clerk called the bellboy over and explained how he overcharged the three cowboys and instructed the bellboy to take five $1.00 bills up to the three cowboys' room.
On the way up, the bellboy decided he did not know how to divide the $5.00 by three. So, he put $2.00 in his pocket and proceeded to the room where he handed each cowboy a $1.00 bill back, so they then each had paid only $9.00 a piece for the room.
Well then, $9.00 times three men means that they paid only $9 x 3=$27.00. So their $27.00 plus the $2.00 in the bellboys pocket equals $29.00.
Where is the other dollar?!

| CTUALLY THE THREE MEN EACH PAID MORE THAN $9. Check, they each have a dollar back plus the two dollar in the bellboys pocket equal five dollars.Now if you divide the $25 retained by the hotel owner into three, you will have something like $8.03, if you add the $1 they get back, you will see they paid something like $9.03. For that matter I think the missing dollar is in the $25 dollar the hotel owner gets. |

They have paid the 25.00 and left with 5.00 which is correct. So the hotel manager has not cheated. If the belly boy had given each the right amount which is 5/3=1.666 The belly boy instead gave each $1.00 and pocketed .66 dollars from each which is equal to .66x3 =2.00
There is no missing dollar. 25+3=28+the 2dollars with the belly boy =30.00. Therefore there is no missing dollar. |

| The missing dollar add up the bill for the three to share. In simple terms 3x8 = 24 plus missing dollar. |
