Multi-million dalasi road projects commence in Banjul
As part of efforts to inject new life into The Gambia’s capital city of 35, 000 inhabitants, the government in collaboration with The Gambia Ports Authority and the Banjul City Council (BCC) have commenced multi-million dalasi road infrastructure projects in Banjul.The projects are to enhance the livelihoods of the city dwellers and ensure a smooth running of traffic.
On Monday, the minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Balla Garba Jahumpa, oversaw the commencement of the road works at Box Bar and Bond Road in Banjul.
Speaking in an interview to the Daily Observer at the sites, Minister Jahumpa explained that the Box Bar road that measures 2.0km links Imam Omar Sowe, Lasso-Wharf, Angle Sea and Hagan Streets. He disclosed that the financiers of this project are the government of The Gambia, The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) and Banjul City Council (BCC).
“The central government pays 60%, GPA contributes 30% whilst the BCC puts in 10%,” he said, while also disclosing that the cost for the project is GMD, 59, 632, 88.20. “It has been awarded to Gai Enterprise and the scope of works at the site will comprise of sub-base layer of 150mm thick, concrete blinding 50mm main reinforcement concrete 275mm thick,” he added........
