UDP Communication For Immediate Release Saturday October 5 2013
The government of Yahya Jammeh on Friday October 4 2013 took to the public airways to launch a vitriolic tirade against the west in general, the United States and United Kingdom in particular for what a government statement referred to as their support and funding of the United Democratic Party (UDP) of The Gambia. Significantly the statement went on to single out one tribe the Mandingos and branding them as enemies of the State and that their purported support for the UDP amounted to an intolerable affront. To have a sitting government make public and declarative statements stoking tribal resentments against one segment of the population of a country is a dangerous prelude to large scale civil strife that the Gambian people and the greater international community must guard against.
We condemn utterly and completely The Gambia government’s reprehensible effort to divide our people on tribal lines and sow the seeds of genocide. We call on all Gambians to join hands and rid our country of a regime that is clearly on the path of destruction.
We further call on all Gambians to be mindful of the government’s insidious attempts to pit them against their fellow citizens who are by extension their neighbors and relatives.
We also call on all Gambians to immediately and comprehensively pivot from being sitting ducks waiting to become the next victims, and resolve to defend themselves, their families, and country from a tyrannical government that will spare no one.
Consequently the UDP Diaspora organization is inviting all Gambians to a public forum today Saturday October 5 2013 at 6pm eastern time, 3pm pacific time, and 11pm United Kingdom time. Participants can call;
7124320075 Passcode 199147#
We urge all Gambians who can to attend to help forge a consensus on the way forward.
Sincerely
UDP Communication
