Nineteen prisoners, incarcerated for various crimes punishable by the laws of The Gambia, on Thursday, the day of the Muslim feast of Koriteh, had their various jail sentences cut short after the president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh exercised his prerogative of mercy.
A press release from the Office of the President stated that The Gambian leader was acting under the powers conferred on him by section 82 sub-section 1 (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.
The release stated that the pardoned prisoners that include Senegalese, Guinea, Bissau Guinean and Liberian nationals are;
Yahya Drammeh,
Mam Kanteh, Lamin Jaiteh,
Katim Njai, Kebba Barrow,
Alhagie Boye,
Abdoulie Kuyateh
Ousainou Camara Njaga Faal Mam Yunusa Jallow
Alhagie Yunusa Barry
Ebrima Vex Colley
Sidat Jarju and Babucarr Dukureh (Senegalese nationals)
Abdou Karim Leigh
Ahmadou Tijan Jallow
Delphine Koiba (Guinea Conakry)
Omar Bah, Bissau Guinean
Darling Warmah, a Liberian.
