I was talking to my girlfriend and she came up with this idea and that is to change the electoral system to increase womens perticipation.

1. To increase the size of districts. i.e to take two districts and merge them to one.
2. To vote for two MPs per district.
a. The women elect a woman as their representative
b. The men elect their representative

Thus, the parliament will have an equal number of women and men. We all know that the ratio of men to women is almost 50/50. Take gambia for example, vertually all the Chiefs are men, almost all Alkalo's and governors are men. Most of the cabinet are men and so are most of the members of parliament.

I thought i would present this for discussion. I have not formed an openion on it yet but i would like to know what everybody thinks.

Kajaw,

i'm not surprised that its women who are coming with these types of ideas. A lady friend of mine also suggested recently that airline tickets should all have a fixed wieght allowance including not just the suitcases but the weight of the passengers as well. that way fat people will pay more and people like me could cash in at the airport, a bit of trading.

i can see a ton of bricks falling on me but i have to say this especially considering their wasteful expenditure on fashion etc women are not the solution.

i think every country must aspire to be lead by its most intelligent folk.

i dont think it also a good idea to have two MPs per district, you can't make decisions because the numbers (total) would always be EVEN. the probability of a stalemate will be higher.
