1. Daily News Clocks Four Years
2. According to above Daily News QUOTED; quote: "Interestingly, seven months on, one wonders: What was the crime The Daily News committed to warrant order for its closure? Seven months on, we are not privy to even a clue of any sin on our part. Which invites the query: If any?"
"To be precise, on September 2012, three plain clothes officers who claimed to be from the Office of the President, came into our offices with an order that the paper cease operations. That was that. No further details had been provided. Our search for explanations took us knocking on the doors of relevant authorities. Or better still, assumed relevant authorities, such as ministries of justice, information, and presidential affairs. These efforts were to no avail."
"Prior to The Daily News’ closure, tens of people, majority of them young people, had been having their livelihoods, either directly or indirectly, through the legitimate establishment. Moreover, The Daily News is up to dates with its taxes, thereby providing the very government with critical revenue needed to meets its expenditure needs. To crown it all, in pursuance of its primary mandate, The Daily News informs, educates and entertains the citizenry without compromising national security or public safety. "
3. Noted before closure Daily News: Published on Monday, September 03, 2012 D.A Jawo's article President Jammeh Defies the Whole World; which authorities might had considered bad publicity or national security issues at controversial times of executions of nine inmates and according to Daily news in same article they reported that; "few days before the executions were carried out, the arbitrary closure of Teranga FM, the only private radio station which used to carry divergent views." Later followed by Standard Newspaper and The Daily News respectively.
"Its unbiased reportage of issues and uncompromising stance on the journalistic principle of “telling it as it is”. Indeed, The Daily News was naturally critical of the regime. At the same it was objective."
Then "Yahya Jammeh avowed that his government would not re-open The Daily News, alongside The Standard newspaper and Teranga FM radio station, which suffered a similar fate, the so-called ‘Top’ from which the order came from became known with a black-and-white certainty."
