Putting a Face on a Name

http://www.maafanta.com/maafantasidisannehinterview

Gambia’s problem is certainly way bigger than the ordinary Joe can comprehend. I must commend our sister in struggle FJM for the opportunity in this interview, getting to know who Sidi Sanneh is. I truly heard of his name many times but never even put a face to his name. This is the first time I laid such a comprehensive knowledge of his person and background. Sometimes we hear these names and we have no idea who they are. Part of me, young and another part, having to leave the Gambia for the US at a much younger age than others who stayed in the Gambia, added to the fact that some of us grew up locations different; even though we know the Gambia is a very small place where almost everyone knows the other or their families.

If not for the part that landed him in Jammeh’s dirty regime which came to define his character under Gambia’s activism online mostly accompanied with debates without follow-up actions, everything else with this man seems cool, going by this interview. I am a pro-American ideologist ( a firm believer in America ) and see myself more as a global internationalist than a nationalist despite my love for the Gambia. It was good to hear about the 60s, a part that some of us missed, but heard directly from lieutenants of those leaders. I am blessed to have socialized with renowned lieutenants of those leaders.

Thanks Fatou for sharing.

Best always,

Yero
