I had not planned to be in gambia when the au was on, but because the shipping agents gave me the wrong informaton (thats another issue) i had to stay the ship arrived 10 days late. I attend some of the pre-seminars and the au itself. Moan, could someone please ask mr president not to call public holidays the day before the event. I am writing a report on my trip and have to factor in costs. TIME is a cost. I had planned to visit some schools but they were closed, TWO DAYS lost cost. i had planned to travel to a village, cleaning day, one day lost COST. travel to north bank cancelled because of ferry timetable being re-aranged, (thats what I got told) cost. You can call as many holidays as you like but the disruption it causes should be taken into account. the school timetable was up the creek. I understand that there would be re-arrangements, some primary schools were closed on the friday b4 the AU because of road diversions that made sense, but the two after the AU, could they not have been announced early. I needed to say something on this topic.

perhaps the best thing to do was to get some information about public holidays, diversions and timetables etc. i was in the Gambia at the same period you were there and in the TV,the print media and radio there were a lot of information about the summit and diversions etc. people were informed. thats a FACT
maybe because you didnt listen to the radio or it was in a local language but i didnt have any problems going about. its just like being in Germany and not realise the World Cup is going on. |
