Fund-raising for A. Saidykhan & B. Ceesay.
Abubarcarr Saidykhan and Baboucarr Ceesay were arrested by Gambia’s National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in September 2012. Upon arrest and subsequent detention beyond the stipulated 72 hours, the duo were charged with incitement to violence, conspiracy to commit felony and seditious intention after they applied for a permit to peacefully demonstrate in the wake of the illegal executions of 9 death-row inmates in the Gambia.
It is clearly to be noted that the Gambian constitution does allow people to demonstrate and to do that one needs to obtain a permit. Both Saidykhan and Ceesay followed the required procedure in obtaining a permit.
Currently both Saidykhan and Ceesay are reporting to the NIA and being subjected to extreme intimidation by the Gambian authorities. As they are court bound, it will involve a lot of legal cost.
We are soliciting your token of contribution towards helping Saidykhan and Ceesay meet their legal cost. Please be a part of history by contributing any amount that you can. Use this right moment to condemn the killings of death-row inmates, the arbitrary arrest of innocent citizens, the closure of print newspapers, and the prostitution of Gambia’s constitution by Yaya Jammeh and his gang of notorious bandits.

Folks,
I have been alerted of couple of corrections and please take note as follows:
•Even though Baboucarr Ceesay worked with the Daily news previously, he resigned his position at the Daily news after being elected as VP of the GPU (Gambia) in 2011.
•The arresting body is the Police attached to the Interpol Office of the Criminal Invesitgation Unit (CIU).

We thank God and it is very pleasing over the dropping of charges for the two Gambia journalists, A. Saidykhan and B. Ceesay. Like Demba would say, "It is the right thing to do and they should have never been charged in the first place. "
At this point, we are making a closure on the fund-raiser. The Updates on Maafanta are current on those that pledged to help out. http://www.maafanta.com/MaafantaheroesofTheMonthPledge.html. Over the next days ahead, Gainako and Maafanta will remove the free ads on the funds solicitation for the two journalists.
Meanwhile, special thanks to Demba, Fatou Jaw, those that pledged/contributed and all those that in one way or the other supported and prayed for them.
It is without a doubt we say that victory is on our side. Tyranny will be over with soon. The Gambia will remain. Don't fold your hands guys to look helpless. Don't ever underestimate the little that you can say or do to make a difference.
Once again, we congratulate Ceesay and Saidykhan for stepping up for what is right.
