It is the same story every year. Chaos! The price fees for the pilgrimage increases every whilst the quality of service never improves.

FIRST BATCH OF PILGRIMS DEPART FOR SAUDI ARABIA

The Gambia International Airlines responsible for the transportation of intended muslim pilgrims to the Holy Kindom of Saudi Arabia on Saturday September 29, called for all intended prigrims booked for the first flight to be at the airport at 0800hrs for takeoff.

However, according to these pilgrims and their family members, they found some delay as the Flight did not depart as earlier disclosed to them by GIA authorities. Some claimed that even though they were booked with first Flight they were asked to go home and listen to GRTS announcement after spending hours waiting for their names or their loved ones.

This reporter could see intended Pilgrims and loved ones moving from one place to another holding their travelling documents. It was also explained to this reporter that some of those who were to travel by the first Flight were turned down.

Earlier on, the intended pilgrims told this reporter that they were informed that those who were not able to go on the pilgrimage last year would be given priority to go on the first flight but according to them, some of them are still left behind after the first flight.

Observing the scene, one could see a push and pull between pilgrims, family members and the security as the struggle to enter the terminal unfolded.

Our reporter visited GIA head office to clarify the claims but was informed by security that all the officials were engaged at the Terminal.

As our reporter attempted to get to the terminal, he was again informed by securities that he must have a hajj ID Card which he was asked to collect the following day.

However it was confirmed to our reporter by a senior security that up to 321 intended Prilgrims have boarded Boeing777 Ethiopian airlines which is expected to carry all Gambian Pilgrims this year to the Holy Kindom of Saudi Arabia.
