In 1985 I met a very old man whom I would called Sheick M and he was a very pious man too. He invited me and some other friends to visit with him at a village where he then resided and we went there as requested. Meeting him at about 5pm in his humble abode he sat us down to chat and then started revealing that then ruler ; to wit Sir Dawda Jawara's time was coming to an end as Head of State and that a new one was going to replace him. What was interesting about this is that he described the person in such a vivid manner even including his height as opposed to Jawara and the fact that he was a man of the uniform etc. He said many things and went on to say that the new ruler would be a harsh person who will bring about so many inquiries , arrests and other hard treatments on us as Gambians as wells as others who live within us. The remarkable thing about that prophesy was that he was about to mention a name to us but a griot who accompanied us interrupted and starting singing praises of his name . This interruption ended our discourse because this man simply got up and left us in his sitting room. We sat for a long time waiting but he did not come out again that day.We were advised to leave by his brother who came in to see us . Some weeks later he called us again to see him and there he continued his talk but said he could not now tell us any more ; as to names of the person but cautioned us to be careful about dealing with the said president when the time comes for him to rule. He added that perhaps the advent of that new ruler would not find him alive but he seriously warned us to beware of the man. Looking back I want to say that the holy man has since passed away and that was before the new ruler came in; but we became living witnesses of what he foretold. I simply want to add that he said to us that he was made to know that the new president's rule would be so harsh that if the duration of his rule was even a year it would seem to be for several years ongoing simply because of the hardship people would endure. However he gave an assurance that this will come to pass when we least expect it and that the years after his rule would be so pleasant that we shall soon forget those years of pain. Finally he said that what was revealed to him was that this president's rule would not be as long as Jawara's reign. Do I believe this, yes I do. I have not said this to many people before but feel I should do that now as it seems things are getting really hot ; but hope is not lost as this is not the end of things for our dear Motherland. What I wrote here can be attested to by many of my friends and i write this knowing that some would doubt it's veracity . My point of doing so is that I don't have any reason to lie about this and know also that this was said to me in the presence of others , some are dead but some are alive. I shall not name them for obvious reasons. Suffice it to say that he whose advent was predicted knows that his departure can be seen and foretold ergo the reported seers comments on Yahya's departure is causing tremors which some might consider silly and unwarranted but they are things that preceded his coming on the scene. Let those who know tell those who don't and be patient too for help indeed is on the way.Another very simple but pious man used to talk about the advent of a new ruler who would be so harsh . This man used to live in Jarra Soma and we used to tell him Pa you saying this to scare us but he swore that he was not. If any reader lives in that area he can verify this statement by asking his people about this story .This man does not say this in secret but openly to the youth and government officials. This man also has since passed away.

Kaan. Thanks for posting your meeting with Sheick M it made me think of Gambia sitting under a big tree in a village in the countryside with friends around a fire who also told stories of those who they had met years ago and made a lasting impression on them just as Sheick M has made on your life. One such person I had the privilege to meet in Banjul many years ago was an elderly lady of Aku decent who had taught in a girls school in England for many years until she retired and returned to Banjul to live, her house was furnished with antique Victorian furniture lace tablecloth, her maid brought tea and biscuits and we drank from bone china cups and saucers, and had a great chat about times when she was younger before she went to England to teach Great lady made a big impression on me. |

Hie T1020 I read your comments with bemusement and I gather from it all ; your own perception of what I wrote about and see in a it a certain scepticism which I can and do expect and excuse for a non Gambian and one who has not been exposed to the mystics of that society. I live in Europe now and one would expect that I will not belabour the workings of the mystic minds and set of the African on any serious discourse with Europeans who are basically materialistic in orientation and all, but I have also come across many instances of use of clairvoyants , mystics and seers on news medium here. This goes to show that we are not living in a backward society but a very vibrant one with divergent ideas on issues that affect us. Having said that I want to add that my posting of the said story was to put on record that I was informed many years ago about what was to happen and this indeed came to pass. The effect of that on me is immense and I take that as a lesson for myself and pass it on to others who care and might be interested in knowing about such issues. You see brother, in my youth, I too used to be sceptical about such things but with time and age behind me I came to see many things pass me by as foretold which I daresay that; I had at the material time, discounted as mere conjecture etc. Any way I will leave this topic which am sure will be in record for years to come and perhaps with time and life permitting some one would say or recall this post of mine and say that I have actually reported it so. Till then shall we say, leave it as it is and wait as we all must do. Thanks! |

Kaan,I understand your reply,I personally have never had the experience that you have had in someone foretelling the future, because I have never had that experience does not mean that there is a cultural difference or non belief or skepticism of that which you have written,it means that I have never had that experience,I understand that what you have said is true because you were there and heard with your own ears. My reply to your posting was not in the your telling of your experience but the impression that Sheick M as a person made on you at the time bearing in mind that the events he foretold had not happened to him but that he fascinated you,in exactly the same way as did the Aku lady did me,instead of foretelling the future she game me a glimpse into the past almost like going back in time,as opposed to Sheick M who gave you a glimpse into the future,I hope I have explained my feelings about my meeting more clearly to you now. This lady really existed I remember her name and that of her husband who she married much later in her life after her first husband died. |
